Swedish House Mafia Masquerade Takeover

Swedish House Mafia's swan song parades through Los Angeles in March.  Its called Masquerade Motel, but may as well be a full on music festival with the way it is being marketed.  The acts final west coast performance is a two day extravaganza taking place at L.A.'s State Historic Park near downtown.

Although Saturday March 9th is already sold out, you can still get tickets to the March 8th show here.  Support performers include Nero, Alesso, Clockwork, Monsta, Zedd, Sub Focus, No_ID and more.

SUPERGOODMUSIC is hosting a contest for tickets to the show.  We will be sending a lucky winner to night 1 and another lucky winner to night 2 - each with a homie or homette of their choosing.    The way you enter is by emailing contest@supergoodmusic.com, reposting this link on your twitter, facebook or blog and/or tweeting out @supergoodmusic @livenation_LA #SHMcontest.  We will choose winners sometime before March 1st - so the earlier you enter, the better!

New Heat: FIND MY WAY by MIND THE GAP

Hopefully you've been watching your step in the music game in early 2013 - because then you might already be familiar with Mind The Gap and their edgy bouncy electronic pop rock single "Find My Way."  To celebrate their ballsy anthem - they released a performance video yesterday and made the song available in exchange for an e-mail address on their website  www.mindthegapsound.com.  Teenagers to 30 somethings filled with angst about life need this track on their mobile phone, ipod and computer STAT - it speaks directly to the struggles we've all experienced trying to figure this thing called life out and the song beats hard and f'ing pops!

"Find My Way" is the first single off of MTG's forthcoming EP Youth due out sometime later in 2013.  If this track portends what the rest of their EP is like - I'm expecting fierce and energetic dopeness in a diverse package.   And why shouldn't I have that expecation?  MTG may be able to lay claim to the title "most diverse rock band" as they're a truly unique quartet spearheaded by a Jewish vocalist from the suburbs of Cleveland, OH, and backed by Sri Lankan hip-hop producer, a Mexican guitarist/producer and a Korean songwriter.   Not only does their diversity make a statement - their musicianship and on-stage chemistry truly validates the famous Abdul line "opposites attract" and evidences that sometimes the best content comes in the most unlikely and colorful of packages.

You can catch MTG performing at The Hotel Cafe on February 15th, but check their website for updates as there will likely be a few other performances popping up and peep the video below with the filthy remixed outro....

Cirque Du Soleil Goes EDM in 2013 with MGM Resorts & The Light Group

Cirque Du Soleil is getting the electronic music facelift in 2013 with the help of The Light Group and MGM Resorts International...and its going to be legit.

The LIGHT at Mandalay Bay is launching in March 2013 as Cirque Du Soleil's first nightclub venture - entering with all the shock and awe that their numerous productions are known for - including video mapping, lighting and sound and special effects from experts Moment Factory.   The 38,000 square foot venue will "serve as a laboratory, very much like [Cirque Du Soleil's] special events and projects have done int he past, for different and new artistic possibilites," said Gay Laliberte, Founder of Cirque Du Soleil.  Joined by Amy Thomson, manager of Swedish House Mafia, and Light Group founder Andrew Sasson, the trio's joint venture looks to bring theatrical nightlife to a whole new territory in the epicenter of America's wild nightclub scene - Las Vegas.

You might be able to guess what artists are likely in the running to be part of some of the opening nights (ahem - Swedish House Mafia maybe???), but you can check all updates at http://haveyouseenthelight.com as well as the venues social media pages.    It's probably not a bad idea to book a room at Mandalay Bay for every weekend in March - it may give you your best chance at getting to experience The LIGHT!

Gavin Turek - A Soulful Dose to The Central SAPC Residency

If you're not familiar with the soulful spark plug that is Gavin Turek - you can correct that by heading out to The Central SAPC tonight (or the 20th or the 27th).  There's a lot of bite packed in her tiny frame - and her hybrid soul/indie/electronic music is pretty fierce.

With features on Tokimonsta records, and mashups with Ratatat - she's clearly got stripes in the game.  And with an aura and attitude that has you thinking she's an entertainer before she even opens her mouth - it's only a matter of time before she's one you've heard about.

Snag the War of Words (Crips Remix) that mashes Gavin with Ratatat here.

SUPERGOOD is hosting the residency tonight - and Zak Waters, Amy Krebs and The Ross Sea Party round out the solid (and FREE) Tuesday night billing with DJ Freshair holding it down during set changes.  Doors are at 7:30, music starts at 8.    Hope to see you there...

Los Globos Gets Served (Closes Temporarily)

Rumor on the Sunset Blvd. is that emerging dance club and late night unwind spot, Club Los Globos, closed its doors today after having their dance and live music permits cancelled by the city on October 29, 2012.  Although the motives behind the rescinding of their paperwork are not yet clear to me - local resident discontent probably has something to do with it as the venue caught some flack for its penchant for all night events and intoxicated patrons.    But - what do you expect from a music venue?

Los Globos was a welcomed addition to the after hours menu of venues, as well as becoming a hub for emerging talent and hot promoters and labels (Iheartcomix, Mad Decent, A Club Called Rhonda, Vice, SMOG and LA Records had each thrown events there).  Owner Steve Edelson made true on his promise of maintaining the club's Latin identity, while simultaneously expanding its musical horizons with a larger dance floor that was DJ friendly and improving the downstairs sound.   Coupled with Edelson's other property holdings in the neighborhood - Globos was shaping up to be a legit force in competing for and hosting late night dance events.

Provided the venue can reacquire their permits, the venue could reopen in as little as 45 days, just in time for holiday celebrations and New Years Eve events.  We're putting in a little SUPERGOOD prayer that the permits are reacquired or reinstated.  Until then - the club remains closed with the exception of private events.

IHC Presents: Clicks & Whistles at Los Globos

Tonight get down with the emerging dope filth that is Clicks & Whistles at Los Globos.

Likely to cut up the best in fresh beats that you've hardly ever heard - Clicks & Whistles bring a refreshing grind to the beat scene.  Low End Theory heads should take notice and anyone looking to accelerate their HAM situation tonight should show up at Globos before midnight - which is when Clicks & Whistles allegedly take the stage.

Its an IHC Presents event - so you know the visuals will be dope, the crowd will be colorful and the music on point.  Due to travel complications - Sinjin Hawke had to bail - so Sinden is stepping in, along with FuzZ and Keltronix.  Snag tickets so you can come whenever you want at www.iheartcomix.com or wait for the door - its $12.  You can also enter our contest for a pair of tickets by emailing contest@supergoodmusic.com or tweeting out @supergoodmusic @iheartcomix  @clicksxwhistles #ff.  Winner will be chosen in 2 hours.

Porter Robinson Releases "Language" Video

Just watch and enjoy.  Want to go on an adventure?  Just sit back and enjoy Porter Robinson's latest music video - the official one for "Language."  The shots and effects are spectacular - which only makes the song feel that much more epic.  The falling on each release and bass drop is a nice editing touch - and by the end of the video - it feels like you just finished Neverending Story.

Props to Porter on this one.

Proximal Records on the Westside (7/13)

Proximal Records visits westside beat haven The Central SAPC for a show of spooky beats this coming Friday the 13th.  The line-up, features oOoOO, an up and coming producer from Newark, NJ who now calls the Bay Area a home and makes quirky remixes a staple of his musical resume that boasts official nods for The Big Pink, Marina and The Diamonds, HIM and more.

Joining oOoOO is Carl Madison Burgin, better known as Sahy Uhns.  The electro/hip-hop producer is a Los Angeleno - but acknowledges his beats are well traveled, as he creates on the fly everywhere he goes.  Carl's no button pusher - his productions are combinations of geeing out on an electronic kit, scratching and engaging with his custom computer interfaces.  If intense production wasn't enough, he's a co-founder of the Proximal label, so he's kind of the host of the party too.

Want to get your burner bang on?  Look no further than 14th and Santa Monica on Friday.

Ocean Beach Review: Samples, Eliot Lipp Whomp The Central SAPC

Santa Monica, CA – May 5, 2012 - Cashing out the West Coast leg of their Spring Tour directly in line with Cinco De Mayo, Samples (aka Ben Samples) and Eliot Lipp brought the heat, sombreros, and glitchy bass beats to the Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club with their special guests Pool Party and Sublmnl Sound System.

Presented by The Madero Group, Grassroots California and SUPERGOODMUSIC --- this spicy late night party went off with innovative beats, striking melodies, and elaborate rhythmic patterns from these heavy-hitting producers/DJs.

Samples, widely known for producing in the live remix project Fresh2Death, hails from Denver, CO.  He brought that matchless rocky mountain swag to The Central’s stage with him when he dropped an undeniable set of soulful dub, funky house, crunk and creative bass-heavy remixes that had the club’s dance floor celebrating in proper fashion.

It was Sample’s beats that had the crowd dipping low and getting primed for one of electronic music’s most vital artists.  I caught up with him and he said, “I don’t write set lists”.  What were a few of his highlights?  Rage Against The Machine “Killing in the Name Of”, (Sample Remix); Beastie Boys “Sabotage” (Alex Metric Remix); and Samples “Drop Bombs”.

Known to EDM connoisseurs and weekend warriors alike, Eliot Lipp , who took the stage alongside “the kid” Samples to start it up and kept the energy at 180 proof.  Not only did Lipp preview new-fangled sounds throughout his set, he hit his points of observable funk, hip-hop, and folk…all while demonstrating his intertwined passions for jazz-fusion, techno, and analogue gear.

Sounds were profound and clear, the light was right, and the electronic music scene was in full effect for those who were in attendance to what SUPERGOODMUSIC, The Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club, and Los Angeles had to serve up…no training wheels necessary.

Be sure to catch Samples and Eliot Lipp, who signed with Pretty Lights Music four days later, on tour this summer.  They remain on a mission of being devoted to convey to you their freshest beats, turning inhabitants into fans from coast to coast.

Robert DeLong at Dim Mak Studios Tonight!

If you're rocking Hollywood tonight - consider Dim Mak Studios. Young entertainer Robert DeLong has his multifaceted set in the house for some electro-rock CrayBans business. Don't know who he is? Find out -

He definitely rocked Dim Mak's party at SUPERGOODMUSIC's BandPage HQ at SXSW. My guess is he will do the same again tonight off of Hollywood Blvd.

Wednesday is For Beats - Blockhead @ King King Club/Eprom @ Low End Theory

Need to put some New Years bounce into your step a couple days early? Look no further than Blockhead and Govinda at King King Club tonight or the final 2011 installment of Low End Theory.

The former is hosted by Codega - a promotion company that previously existed in the world of pay to play events and putting relative L.A. no names....but Blockhead at King King Club? This is new territory for them. Thankfully they recruited an awesome chef from the beat kitchen in Blockhead. For the unfamiliar, Blockhead is a hip-hop producer based out of NYC, whose most famous accolades come from Ninja Tune releases and work with Def Jux artists, including Aesop Rock. He hasn't put out a record since 2009's "The Music Scene" which featured this title track:

The music video for "The Music Scene" is like a Dr. Seuss book turned into an acid trip - which may be a fitting description of the sonic landscape you can expect Blockhead to cook up tonight. Govinda supports, as well as Geno Cochino and DJ Audioptic.

If you want grimier, more electronicized beats - than head to the last Low End Theory of 2011. Eprom, Mux Mool, Jonwayne and residents Gaslamp Killer, Daddy Kev, Nocando D-Styles and Nobody make sure Wednesday doesn't feel like the middle week. FYI - its the Eprom that created "Humanoid," not the European hip-hop scratch DJ. Here's a taste....

Grandma Inspires New Dubstep Dance?

My grandparents were never much into hip-hop and that stuck around. But my Mema actually has found some things to like about dub step, and apparently other people's grandparents have too. If that's not a sign of its staying power - I'm not really sure what is.

Peep this grandma. We'll call her quasi conductor movements with her hands 'dub fingers.'

And check out this grandpa getting down to Skrillex.

And this grandma getting down to Skrillex in the car.
