"Poppin Off"

Howard, Donald, the Mighty....there have been a few famous ducks in my lifetime, but none have the ill vibes of Atlanta's Watch The Duck.  Recently signed to Epic - these young guns in the Trap Step movement are definitely onto something.  The bass drops are filthy, the soul and hip-hop influences are evident and these kids can seriously dance.

Don't let me tell you - watch for yourself and get ready to be "Poppin Off" all day.

Skrillex' Reggae Steeze

Skrillex combined with Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley to drop a bass heavy video for "Make It Bun Dem" to get those reggae vibes out before the 2012 heatwaves are all gone.  Enjoy....

Ocean Beach Review: Samples, Eliot Lipp Whomp The Central SAPC

Santa Monica, CA – May 5, 2012 - Cashing out the West Coast leg of their Spring Tour directly in line with Cinco De Mayo, Samples (aka Ben Samples) and Eliot Lipp brought the heat, sombreros, and glitchy bass beats to the Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club with their special guests Pool Party and Sublmnl Sound System.

Presented by The Madero Group, Grassroots California and SUPERGOODMUSIC --- this spicy late night party went off with innovative beats, striking melodies, and elaborate rhythmic patterns from these heavy-hitting producers/DJs.

Samples, widely known for producing in the live remix project Fresh2Death, hails from Denver, CO.  He brought that matchless rocky mountain swag to The Central’s stage with him when he dropped an undeniable set of soulful dub, funky house, crunk and creative bass-heavy remixes that had the club’s dance floor celebrating in proper fashion.

It was Sample’s beats that had the crowd dipping low and getting primed for one of electronic music’s most vital artists.  I caught up with him and he said, “I don’t write set lists”.  What were a few of his highlights?  Rage Against The Machine “Killing in the Name Of”, (Sample Remix); Beastie Boys “Sabotage” (Alex Metric Remix); and Samples “Drop Bombs”.

Known to EDM connoisseurs and weekend warriors alike, Eliot Lipp , who took the stage alongside “the kid” Samples to start it up and kept the energy at 180 proof.  Not only did Lipp preview new-fangled sounds throughout his set, he hit his points of observable funk, hip-hop, and folk…all while demonstrating his intertwined passions for jazz-fusion, techno, and analogue gear.

Sounds were profound and clear, the light was right, and the electronic music scene was in full effect for those who were in attendance to what SUPERGOODMUSIC, The Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club, and Los Angeles had to serve up…no training wheels necessary.

Be sure to catch Samples and Eliot Lipp, who signed with Pretty Lights Music four days later, on tour this summer.  They remain on a mission of being devoted to convey to you their freshest beats, turning inhabitants into fans from coast to coast.

SUPERGOODMUSIC aims to advance awareness of all music in and around Los Angeles and currently provides daily information about live concerts from over 50 venues through the SUPERGOODMUSIC Concert Blast.

Adventure Club Dubstep Hits Boulder for SOLD OUT Show (Win Free Tickets From US!)

If you haven't explored the sonic world of Adventure Club - get ready for a wild ride. They take indie songs I'm often just becoming familiar with, dose them with bass, add some extra juice and sexy drops and out emerges a remix that I'd much rather listen to than the original.

They've done it with Foxes "Youth," Flight Facilities' "Crave You," and even Metric's "Collect Call." You can download all of those for free off of their Soundcloud. You can also get a free pair of tickets to see them at their SOLD OUT show at Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO on Saturday April 7th by participating in our Adventure Club contest. All you have to do is take a trip over to twitter and mention @supergoodmusic @supergoodco and @foxtheatreco in the same tweet or comment on our facebook page about how much you want to see Adventure Club. Do either and you will be entered.

Skrillex - "Bangarang" Video Released

Skrillex's first post-Grammy music video release continues his content onslaught. This week's treat is "Bangarang" - a mischievous tale of young ice cream thieves. The mildly creepy, back alley setting seems eerily familiar to the "First of the Year" video - but this video has a few more bright spots. Little kids. Ice cream trucks. Explosives. Ya know - the good stuff.

Skrillex Invades L.A. (Late January 6 Show Run)

Grammy award nominee Skrillex (does that sound weird to anyone else?) descends on Los Angeles and New York City from his dubstep mothership to party with friends and label mates ten more times before the Grammy ceremonies get under way.

The five time nominee won't be playing alone, he has recruited some heavy-hitting dubsteppers and signees to his OWSLA label to join him. The ten date run features a host of intimate gatherings that will be limited to those that act early (tickets go on sale for L.A. Live tomorrow at 10 am) and those in Skrillex's personal circle. You'll be lucky to get into any show in L.A., because given Sonny Moore's massive rise in stardom, Dim Mak Studios, Echoplex and Avalon just won't be able to contain the demand. The Palladium probably won't even be able to handle it - I imagine that will sell out rapidly too.

In total, he rages through Los Angeles for six straight nights beginning on January 24th at Dim Mak Studios for their weekly Dim Mak Tuesday party. He will be joined by Alvin Risk and Koan Sound. My guess is there won't be free alcohol to get you in the door early that night...

The real treat of the run is probably Wednesday the 25th at Echoplex where he plays a Skrillex vs. 12th Planet show, along with Diplo. When 12th Planet is essentially the least recognizable artist on your bill, and that bill takes place in Los Angeles, you know the show is going to be massive.

Thursday he takes on exchange with OWSLA signee Zedd, and Friday he moves to Avalon for Control with Huoratron and Kill The Noise. After that, its two less intimate nights at Palladium and L.A. Live Event Deck respectively. The latter offers guest spots from Benga, Nadastrom and other special guests TBA.

If you're not already amped for this - I don't know what you're drinking or you just hate dubstep, or both. Don't sleep in tomorrow if you're a Los Angeleno. Get up at 10 am and make sure you get some of those damn tickets!

New Yorkers, check your local listings, but he tackles the Big Apple with four shows over five nights, including a show at Terminal 5 with Skream & Benga, KOAN Sound and Tokimonsta on February 4th.

Grandma Inspires New Dubstep Dance?

My grandparents were never much into hip-hop and that stuck around. But my Mema actually has found some things to like about dub step, and apparently other people's grandparents have too. If that's not a sign of its staying power - I'm not really sure what is.

Peep this grandma. We'll call her quasi conductor movements with her hands 'dub fingers.'

And check out this grandpa getting down to Skrillex.

And this grandma getting down to Skrillex in the car.

11 ACTS TO CATCH AT NORTH COAST MUSIC FESTIVAL

The second installment of North Coast Music Festival is filled with artists both big and small - but there are 11 current, former and future chart toppers that we think make the return of the festival an extra special one. This collection of artists have been bringing thier A game to stages for years - and we expect nothing less from them this weekend in Chicago.

1. Thievery Corporation - 8:30 - 10:00 Sunday; Red Bull Grove Stage -

With a new album under their belt – “Culture of Fear” – that continues the massive groups reign as the quintessential eclectic world influenced chill music. From “Stargazer” to the title track – the new record is a winner and maintains the Corporation’s position as one of the better composition groups out there. With an ensemble that can exceed a dozen people – its not so easy to find a stage suitable for the Corporation – but North Coast is providing that platform (they also play a late show on Sunday). Check out this youtube video for "Free" off of the new record.

2. Bassnectar - 8:30 - 10:00 Sunday; North Coast Stage -

Squaring off against Thievery, this may be the toughest decision of the festival. But Bassnectar has been crushing the festival circuit this summer. Arguably at more big or legitimate festivals than any other electronic artist/DJ this summer, Lorne has been throwing the bass down on stages around the country at lightning pace. With a progressive and coordinated visual performance to compliment his tunes, and always with something to say to the crowd before an epic drop, a Bassnectar festival set is not to be missed. If you do have to miss it - he is going on a national tour.

3. Common - 7:30 - 8:30 Saturday; Named After Groupon Stage -

With rumors circulating of a new album coming soon and a recent series of Rock The Bells performances of his record “BE”, Common is again part of the buzz in the hip-hop community. His conscious, eloquent, creatively crafted lyrics compliment almost any beat he is given and there is no doubt the Chi-Town native is probably cooking up something wicked. With a festival performance in his hometown – I certainly wouldn’t miss it. The potential for a cameo or guest to show up is realistic and whether one does or doesn’t, Common can carry a performance from coast to coast any day.

4. Rusko – 6:30 - 7:30 Saturday; North Coast Stage

Producer extraordinaire Rusko brings his preferred bass drops to NCMF and I couldn’t be more excited. After unfortunately missing him at Camp Bisco (he cancelled) and his absence from some of the most major festival line-ups (Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza) – catching a Rusko set this summer has not been that easy. The 26 year old dubstep juggernaut has produced for M.I.A., Britney Spears and recently Mike Posner’s "Shut Up."

5. David Guetta - 8:30 - 10 Friday; North Coast Stage

The man that popularized electro-soul-house headlines tonight and, rightfully so. Owning multiple #1 hit records, including a recently released album “Nothing But The Beat” that is crushing charts on just about every continent, Guetta is at the top of his game. With lasers, robots and hot drops galore at any Guetta show – he is the perfect act to end the first night of a hopefully epic weekend.

6. Lettuce - 4:30 - 5:30 Saturday; North Coast Stage

These ambassadors of funk have been playing together for over a decade - hailing back to their days at Berklee School of Music. Each member has their own viable bad ass offshoot - from Deitch's Break Science and stint with Pretty Lights to Krasno and Evans' Soulive - they all do their thing separately. But when this super group gets together - its about as dirty as funk gets. While each man in this band is an all star - it is a toss up as to who the anchor is. I'm a big fan of Jesus, their bassist, who has smacked the strings on some classic hip-hop records as well as stages around the world. Check out a sampling of their live energy and a little background on the band in these two youtube videos:

7. Major Lazer - 6:00 - 7:00 Saturday; Red Bull Grove Stage

Major Lazer brings together super producer Diplo and producer Switch into a baile-funk, dancehall inspired island flavored beat creating duo. With one LP, one EP, a mash-up record with La Roux (Lazerproof) and a handful of mixtapes in the last three years - Lazer has been very active on the recording side of things. They've also been active on the festival circuit - although I haven't caught them yet this summer. Saturday will change that. Here's "Pon De Floor" - one of their more popular cuts that appears routinely in other people's DJ sets.

8. The Budos Band - 3:30 - 4:30 Sunday: Named After Groupon Stage

This Daptastic crew of funky soul brothers hail from Brooklyn and make funk that is one half afrobeat, one quarter soul and all parts bad ass. Distinctively different from Lettuce, as well as other funk NCMF performers The New Mastersounds, The Budos Band's commitment to tribal rhythms and sounds is evident on each of their three records, including their most recent release, 2010's The Budos Band III. Their unique afro-soul usually comes in a 10+ person package, and who knows just how many will don North Coast's stage. Check out "Up From The South" which was the theme song for the NFL network several season ago.

9. Little Dragon - 5:30 - 6:30 Sunday; Named After Groupon Stage

Swedish synth pop darlings have been all the rage in 2011, especially since their release of Ritual Union, the groups third album, on July 25, 2011. With a handful of festival appearances since then, including Outside Lands, and this weekends appearance at North Coast as well as Bumbershoot, Little Dragon is enjoying their much deserved success as much as possible. Spearheaded by Japanese singer Yukumi Nagano, the group has been around since 1996 and is finally getting their justified dues. Post festival season they will be touring with Friendly Fires and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

Check out them performing "Ritual Union" on KCRW. And check out Syd The Kid of Odd Future remixing one of their tracks here.

10. Zeds Dead - 3:00 - 4:00 Saturday; Red Bull Grove Stage

Progressive electronic dubstep duo made up of DC and Hooks from Toronto make what I like to call disco dubstep at times. It definitely gets your ass moving. A favorite of and frequent appearance in many DJs sets - these industry darling child's performances are quite the jam. Plus - their name is a homage to Pulp Fiction. Don't miss!

11. Break Science - 3:30 - 4:30 Saturday; Named After Groupon Stage

RJD2 is a DJ in the vein of Shadow, Jel and others that blend great samples with drum machines and make beats and compositions that have a classic hip-hop feel as well as broader appeal. Break Science is the magical duo of Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee - making glitch break beat electro jams out of NYC and delivering them to the world. While you may not have heard of their project - you've certainly heard Borahm at any of Kanye's more recent shows and Deitch has been a mainstay drummer on the scene since the 90s when he played drums with the Fugees. These two party starting forces collided at this years Camp Bisco and look to continue the magic here at North Coast. (they also play a late show Saturday)

Pacific Festival Post Fact - Part 1 (recap by ZSE)

After being anointed with my VIP Press/Media pass courtesy from the organizers of Pacific Festival, I proceeded into the festival and went to see Hanni El Khatib on the Pacific stage. I'd intended on listening to him perform a few songs from his set as I wanted to walk around the festival and get an idea of where I would be spending most of the day. I was struck by the first song I heard, which was his best, the rocking "Build. Destroy. Rebuild." Here's "Build. Destroy. Rebuild".

Hanni El Khatib- Build. Destroy. Rebuild.

After Khatib and orienting myself to the festival grounds, I saw !!! (chk chk chk), a dance-punk group whose lead singer had incredible stage presence. He connected with the crowd and elevated the energy by getting off the stage and dancing/walking his way to the first 75-100 fans in the front rows. Their energetic and animated performance definitely earned my respect.

AM / FM by ChkChkChk

Disco-house duo Poolside were still dropping beats after !!! finished, so I jogged and caught the last song of their set. Although I don't remember what that song was, here's "Do You Believe" which I assume they played.

Poolside - Do You Believe

Poolside overflowed into The C90s - who performed on top of the shagedelica bus, that was covered with white fur on nearly all of the interior and exterior of the bus. It was an interesting site to see and getting access to dance on top the bus while The C90s performed Disco/Electronica/Dance was a unique experience! Here's "Shine A Light".

Kreayshawn - Gucci Gucci

Kreayshawn, the female hip-hopper with some friends in Odd Future and and a decently annoying voice, has stumbled into a hit by reciting popular clothing brands and making references to drugs all over a kicking wobbly bass track. Who came up with that formula? and knew it would be successful?

While nothing that seems all that original - clearly the "Gucci Gucci" has caught on quite well, averaging a little over 100,000 views a day. Nastiers, dirtier and possessing less pop appeal than Kesha - I'll admit that Kreayshawn is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Despite the wack hook and her voice, I still enjoy this song.

"I got the swag and its pumping out my ovaries...". The lyrics are clever....

Colorado High Notes

April 20th is the highest of holidays and one of the best days to see music in Colorado. After some of the largest smoke outs in the country go down at 4:20 in the afternoon, venues all over the state are filled with incredible talent and something to satisfy many concertgoers. The most 420 friendly venue in Colorado is Cervantes and they have Two Fresh, Lazer Sword, Mochipet, Papa Skunk, and Ecliptik for a glitch hop/hip hop throw down in the main room as well as B Foundation, Apex Vibe, Roster McCabe, Katastro, and Sober Down playing reggae in the Other Side.

If you’re looking for a different style of electronic music in Denver, check out Sphongle, Random Rab, and Lynx at the Bluebird or Sleepyhead, Salva, .anasi, Treethugger (Fisk), and Wyatt Lamond are holding it down at Club Vinyl. For all the Northern Colorado whompers, Vibesquad, Michal Menert, The Villians, and Trichrome are at the El Carousel Night Club in Greeley. Fort Collins electronic music enthusiasts can enjoy either Nosaj Thing, Break Science, Ill-Mannered, Acidophiles, and Untyed Laces at the Aggie Theater or Steve Bonez, Don Womp, Skywalkker, BathDub, and Pink Elephants at Hodi’s Half Note.

For the non-electronically inclined, you may be on of those lucky enough to already have tickets for Duran Duran’s sold out show at the Ogden Theater in Denver and for all you hip hop heads out there Collie Budz, New Kingston and Los Rakas are at the Fox Theater in Boulder. It doesn't matter if you're high or not, if you are in Colorado, there is absolutely no reason to miss out on so much amazing music this 4/20!!!

#Imjustsaying - Dog Shit is that New Shit

I have no idea who Courcy Magnus is - but I dig this simple video and the beat that has some dubstep like bass in it. Video is very lo-fi, which draws your attention back to the beat and the song. To fit the dirty topic - they went with a slightly dirrrrrty beat and BOOM - Dog Shit is my new shit. Is it yours?

Dear SXSW and Coachella - 12th Planet is coming

Have you heard this bass? Turn your computer speakers up and learn how John Dadzie AKA 12th Planet throws down at festivals in 2011. This is 12th at Snowball Music Festival past Friday.

Why didn't I go to Colorado for Snowball Music Festival?

Look Out for @DanSena & Del Dubstep

Stumbled on this video from a recent @DanSena performance at Voyeur. The Dim Mak DJ/producer/beatsmith hooked up with Del Tha Funky Homosapien to propel music into the next realm of the future - good rappers over dubstep. The sound quality on this video isn't stellar, but you can tell there is some magic underneath this FlipCam capture.

Look for the Dan Sena and Del Tha Funky Homosapien track somewhere soon.

Opiuo - Robo Booty

My favorite song off of his "Slurp & Giggle" release. So sad I missed his Monsters of Bass show at El Rey Theatre last week. This is glitch hop at its finest - raw, energetic, bassy and it makes you want to dance. Don't sleep on Opiuo....
