Bronsolini Turns Up For The Elderly

Vine prankster, esteemed chef and foodie, and plus-sized rapper Action Bronson continued his comedic and entertaining antics this week with an impromptu performance at St. Hilda's old folks home in the UK.   Despite the geezers giving a collective score of 5.2 for the show (we think they're just not familiar or fond of rap music), when asked about the experience, Bronson remarked that it was "the most electrifying performance of [his] career" and that his hair was perfect.   Check out the grandpa bobbing his head around 1:50.

Don't you want Action Bronson to deliver you chocolate after an intimate "Strictly 4 My Jeeps" concert?   That would be so SUPERGOOD.

Los Angeles Tonight (July 31, 2013)

End your month on a good note.  We strongly recommend Stanton Moore's final residency performance at The Mint with fellow Garage A Trois mate Marco Benevento on keys.  It will be some crazy jazz tonight on Pico!  We have a couple tickets to giveaway so email us at contest@supergoodmusic.com or comment on this post.  If you're on that jazz tip, but you're all the way in Hollywood - then the Props to Pops event at Hollywood Bowl hosted by Dr. John and paying homage to Louis Armstrong should be a perfect fit.

If eclectic is your style, but jazz is not, consider The Flaming Lips at Pacific Amphtiheatre or the healthy indie bill of Mt. Ossa, Willoughby, Thee Rain Cats and Wildcat! Wildcat!'s Jesse Charmichael at The Echo.  More shows listed below the videos...

  • The Flaming Lips @ Pacific Amphitheatre

Los Angeles Tonight (July 30, 2013)

There's a lot on the concert list tonight, but not a lot of names that pop out.  So you've got to dig a lil', find some diamonds in the rough.

Like the Bob Dylan and Dead Tribute night going down at Lot 1 with Cubensis and Highway 61 Revisited.  I shouldn't have to tell you that this sounds heady.

Or maybe you've got like, some teen angst, and We the Kings with Breath Carolina at The House of Blues is your type of thing.

Young Creatures are friendly dudes, go give them a listen at The Silverlake Lounge.

Or maybe you snagged a ticket to Franz Ferdinand at The Echoplex, in which case, you don't have to dig too deep at all.  You just gotta dance.

Echo's Scavenger Hunt #EchoTakesLA: Game On at 4 PM

The great minds behind the esteemed Echo and Echoplex went a little craybans with concerts on this July 25th - with shows at The Echo, First Unitarian Church and Santa Monica Pier. To feed the true local music heads and the social media beast - they've devised a wild scavenger hunt (#EchoTakesLA) that launches at 4 pm.  By the way, that First Unitarian Church show is Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson as the Uncluded and we are giving away tickets to it here.  The Pier is No Age and Tijuana Panthers and its FREE.

Posters hung at the venues listed above reveal pertinent clues that you'll need to photograph and tag it on twitter w/ @TheEchoLA #EchoTakesLA and include info on who is performing at the venue of choice. If you are led to the "ultimate hidden show poster" - and you tag it... well there is a grand prize provided you've found the other 3 clues too. Plus there are prizes for those other uber-detectives that locate two clues.

Here is a scavenger map. Get on it at 4 pm.

Grand prize gets a crazy Echo Ticket package that includes the following:

· Pair of tickets to any show in August at The Echo and Echoplex.

· Pair of tickets to one upcoming show at First Unitarian Church (Julia Holter / Olafur Arnalds / Youth Lagoon)

· Pair of tickets to Beach Ball festival or Way Over Yonder festival at the Santa Monica Pier.

Locating 3 Clues (and sharing them w/ appropriate tags) gets you:

· Pair of Echo Park Rising VIP tickets

· Pair of tickets to Any Echo or Echoplex show in August

For 2 Clues:

· Pair of tickets to one show at The Echo in August

Scavenge away!

The Service Company Takes Over Hollywood Tonight!

-1

Don't miss the stylings of the emerging beat generating family that is The Service Company at Dim Mak Studios tonight.  With TSC's roster - which includes Daedelus, Tokimonsta, Two Fresh, $o Japan, TK, LION KNGS and Robert Raimon Roy - you can expect eclectic, artsy and thoughtful music at the Hollywood Blvd. enclave tonight....I just couldn't tell you which one of these talented artists will be supplying it.

Deciphering the poster and the other parties involved - I'd venture to say performances will be of a beat driven variety, although I couldn't say whom will be at the helm pushing buttons and cuing tracks.   You have to show up to figure out who the SECRET GUEST HEADLINER is or are.  BUT if you're in the mood for some trap and heavy bass - look no further than Dim Mak Studios tonight.   Return to the region tomorrow for Round 2 when Kendo of Two Fresh hits iheartcomix's Sunday night party at Drai's, where he opens for 12th Planet!

Keith Masters Drops "Very First Time" Video

VFT_1600

Keith Masters, an emerging Chicago artist, treated his electromajic fans to his latest effort, “Very First Time,” last week.   The song showcases Keith's emerging pop-fused electronic hip-hop style that's been honed through countless studio sessions and several years of grinding on the road, including sharing stages with Foster The People, Imagine Dragons, Far East Movement, Futurecop!, STRFCKER, French Horn Rebellion and Cannibal Ox.  On "Very First Time," written by Keith Masters and produced by Curtis Marolt, Keith delivers a truly pop-driven hook which is quickly becoming a perfect top-down summer jam. The video, also directed by Masters and premiering today on URB.com, shows off the style, confidence and youthful enthusiasm that defines his music.   Enjoy the video and grab the song on i-tunes or stream it on Spotify come July 30th!

Los Angeles Tonight (July 11, 2013)

So Jam in the Van just filmed The Melodic at High Sierra Music Festival and they were excellent, which is why I highly recommend going to check them out at The Bootleg Theater tonight. They sound a bit Mumfordish, in a good way.

Portugal. the Man and Avi Buffalo are at the House of Blues in Anaslime.

Incan Abraham trips out The Echo.

Brooklyn electro-rockers Anamanaguchi are at the Observatory. I hear if you can say the name five times fast at the door you get in for regular ticket price.

The big party tonight however is at the beach as the Santa Monica Twilight Concert Series opens up with a performance by Surfer Blood. So pack up your wine and cheese, get on your bike and head over to the pier for some fuzz rock. Remember to bring a sweater because it gets chilly.

Grammy winners Amadou and Miriam bring their awesome Afro-beat vibes to the Fonda Theatre tonight.

If you want to spend your hump day laughing your ass off, head over to the Largo where Russell Brand is performing tonight.

One of Pepsi's R&B artists to watch for, Kelela, joins Inc. for a wild night at The Roxy.  We've got tickets to giveaway so mention us and @theroxy and @kelelam on twitter or email contest@supergoodmusic.com to get down on the action.  For a full list of shows - see below.

Los Angeles Tonight (July 9, 2013)

Oh wow, so I see that Tokimonsta is playing with Bay Urrea freaky deaky Brooke Candy at The Echoplex...

The Blank Tapes are at The Bootleg Theater with Fletcher C. Johnson.

Rumspringa opens minds at the Harvard and Stone.

Black Crystal Wolf Kids celebrate Jeff Miller's Birthday at The Mint, along with Mind The Gap and a few more friends.  Its going to be a party!

And that'll be your Tuesday night.

Keep it heady boys and girls.

Colorforms and Choose Your Own Adventure: Tokimonsta's "Clean Slate" Video

Tokimonsta, one of the baddest B's in the production game, took her creative chops to a new level this week dropping a Choose Your Own Adventure-esque, color forms reminiscent, comic book feeling music video for "Clean Slate."  The Half Shadows single features Gavin Turek and the two of them play around on green screens while the viewer selects which creatures to populate the landscapes.  Play in Jennifer 's fantasy land here.

You can also play around with Queen Tokimonsta on Tuesday July 9th at Echoplex - where she headlines a healthy Check Yo Ponytail 2 bill that also includes Pipes, Brooke Candy and newcomer $o Japan - an emerging trap-esque producer.  It will be Toki's first LA show since her album release, and first show in the states since returning from her first Australian tour.  Don't miss out - get your tickets here!

Los Angeles Tonight (July 5, 2013)

Recover from the fireworks, stuff down some more BBQ and then take a trip back to the 90s at either Greek Theatre or Staples Center. The latter hosts New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men. If you're in your thirties - you danced to that 'ish at Bar Mitzvahs, don't lie! The former gets Guy, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Dru Hill, SWV and Al. B Sure. If that line up doesn't make you weak in the knees - well, you're just not a 90s soul child.

If you're into that new - catch the ludicrous vernacular of Riff Raff at The Observatory with support from Lil' Debbie or try the likes of Fartbarf, Ninja Betty & The Nunchix and more at El Cid. Keep a Friday night funky with The B Side Players at The Mint or keep it cartoonish with Bugs Bunny at The Symphony at the Hollywood Bowl.

For some more musical options - see below.

  • Go Betty Go, The Dollyrots, The Hot Toddies, The Potential Lunatics @ Troubadour

  • Steed Lord, Parallels, The Frail, Night Club @ Los Globos

  • T.N.T., Gummy, Party Favor, Them Lost Boys, Cliff @ Los Globos

  • Fartbarf, Ninja Betty & The Nunchix, SpaceCream, Hampus Norlander & Topher Buckland @ El Cid

  • Guy, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Dru Hill, SWV, Al. B Sure @ Greek Theatre

  • New Kids on the Block, 98 Degress, Boyz II Men @ The Staples Center

  • Bugs Bunny at the Symphony @ Hollywood Bowl

  • Linda Perhacs and Friends @ Levitt Pavilion Pasadena

Los Angeles Tonight (July 4, 2013)

It's a quiet ass night as far as music goes... I guess maybe our founding fathers wanted it that way?

At any rate, you can catch Josh Groban at the Bowl, or you can sing to yourself... Happy Independence day y'all.

Los Angeles Tonight (July 3rd, 2013)

As a handful of you readers close out your work week super early - a concert might be the perfect cocktail to enter your holiday weekend before the fireworks and BBQs commence.

There is no better place to get a funky start to the freedom festivities then to go to The Mint for the launch of Stanton Moore's residency.  The Galactic super drummer is joined by Wil Blades and Meters' guitarist Leo Nocentelli.  If you can't handle the funk, House of Vibe at Harvelle's probably won't be the right decision either.

If you're anxious for fireworks - then Hollywood Bowl for Josh Groban and LA Phil is not a bad bet.  If you prefer your explosions of the bass and trap variety - then Downlink and Etc! Etc! at Yost Theater is for you.

Last, but certainly not least, the Marley bloodline makes an appearance at Echoplex for Dub Club as Damian Marley and Stephen Marley host a night featuring Ghetto Youths Crew, Christopher Ellis, Black Am I, Jo Mensa and special guests!

For more shows see the list below:

  • Stanton Moore, Wil Blades, Leo Nocentelli  @ The Mint - $18-$20

  • Mike Kijanski, Hestyn, Bree Harlow, Katie Dayton, Dylan Starrs @ The Troubadour - $15

  • Rainbow Jackson, Quiet Company, Josh Boyd 3 @ The Satellite - $8

  • Frontier Ruckus, Widower, Adam Arcuragi & Ark Life, Rebecca Marie Miller @ The Hotel CafĂ©

  • Sanglorians, Go West Young Man, Kid Cadaver @ Bootleg Bar - $10

  • Ghetto Youths Crew feat. Wayne Marshall, Christopher Ellis, Black Am I, Jo Mensa (Hosted by Damian “Jr Gong” Marley and Stephen “Ragga” Marley) + Special Guests @ The Echoplex

Los Angeles Tonight (July 2, 2013)

It's Tuesday in LA during TV offseason, here's what you can do after the sun goes down (because when the sun is up y'all need to either be at work or playing outside, stop gettin fat America)...

Outer Minds and Dante vs. Zombies take over the Observatory.  FYI they aren't real zombies, so no need to arm yourselves.

The Garden is at the Smell, those dues are quirky, there's a few other bands playing with them, def. worth $5.00, which coincidentally is the price.

Royal Teeth are cuttin  at The Troubadour.

That should keep you busy.  Stay safe.
