New Heat: FIND MY WAY by MIND THE GAP

Hopefully you've been watching your step in the music game in early 2013 - because then you might already be familiar with Mind The Gap and their edgy bouncy electronic pop rock single "Find My Way."  To celebrate their ballsy anthem - they released a performance video yesterday and made the song available in exchange for an e-mail address on their website  www.mindthegapsound.com.  Teenagers to 30 somethings filled with angst about life need this track on their mobile phone, ipod and computer STAT - it speaks directly to the struggles we've all experienced trying to figure this thing called life out and the song beats hard and f'ing pops!

"Find My Way" is the first single off of MTG's forthcoming EP Youth due out sometime later in 2013.  If this track portends what the rest of their EP is like - I'm expecting fierce and energetic dopeness in a diverse package.   And why shouldn't I have that expecation?  MTG may be able to lay claim to the title "most diverse rock band" as they're a truly unique quartet spearheaded by a Jewish vocalist from the suburbs of Cleveland, OH, and backed by Sri Lankan hip-hop producer, a Mexican guitarist/producer and a Korean songwriter.   Not only does their diversity make a statement - their musicianship and on-stage chemistry truly validates the famous Abdul line "opposites attract" and evidences that sometimes the best content comes in the most unlikely and colorful of packages.

You can catch MTG performing at The Hotel Cafe on February 15th, but check their website for updates as there will likely be a few other performances popping up and peep the video below with the filthy remixed outro....

SSMF - Day 1 Recap of The Doors/Day 2 - Rap on The Strip

Sunset Strip Music Festival 2012 is now well under way...

A serious tribute to The Doors, which included Ray Manzarek playing a keys solo on "Light My Fire" as if he'd never play again, upped the bar on this still young festival.   Joined by a parade of musicians including Billy Morrison, Matt Sorum, Mark McGrath, Emily Armstrong (Dead Sara), Linda Perry and Franky Perez - as well as Door's members Bobby Krieger and John Densmore - the third SSMF launched with a big blast off.

Early close time at the Tribute meant other Sunset Strip enclaves opened their doors to the parade of festival-goers for the likes of Lady Sinatra at The Viper Room, Peter Murphy at The Roxy and more.  Finding my way over to The Viper Room - Murphy's vocals pierced the air for a crowded house of rock fanatics and I got spent on a bit of a Roxy family celebration.  Big shout outs to @nicadler for not only operating one of L.A.'s top venues and being so hospitable, but for also playing such an instrumental role in bringing the entire Sunset Strip Music Festival (@ssmf) together.

Tonight Festival goers can grab a healthy dosage of hip-hop - from Hollywood scene rapper Mickey Avalon at The Viper Room to the Shaolin stylings of RZA at Key Club.  RZA will be joined by rising Jewish MC and freestyle entertainer - Kosha Dillz - so make sure to get their early....

Peep videos from RZA, Mickey and Kosha Dillz here.

Want to get filthy drunk and party like a rockstar?  Go to Saint Rocke this Saturday night and sing a schwasted version of "My Dick" with Mickey Avalon.  With a colorful canvas of experience to draw from (Mickey's the son of a pot peddling mother and heroin addict father), Avalon shows are certainly an experience worth indulging.    Buy your tickets here.

Sexy girls and dirty lyrics are par for the course when it comes to the notoriously "Loaded" artist.  And his show is an event you need to witness at some point - so we've got a few free tickets to sweeten the deal.  Reach out to contest@supergoodmusic.com or tweet @supergoodmusic @saintrocke and @mickeyave to enter.  Winner will be chosen on Friday afternoon.

Up and coming indie-synth rock sensation Tic Tic Boom! bring their talents to Pasadena today as part of the Eat. See.  Hear. series that launches this weekend and is taking place each Saturday night into September.    With food trucks on the front end and The Wedding Singer being aired on the back end - there is no reason not to enjoy Tic Tic Boom! as the "Hear." portion of your entertainment sandwich on June 2, 2012.

Although outside booze is not allowed - you can bring your own picnic to the party.  Blankets and lawn chairs are not provided.  Tickets to the E.S.H. get down are $10 and $20 here.  For $10 it is GA consumption, but the $20 passes allow you to arrive at your leisure and still be guaranteed a good spot for SEEing.

Indie Rock-Rap Mash Up Monday

If you're into indie-rock, you might have heard of Los Angelina Chelsea Wolfe - but not Kosha Dillz (@koshadillz).  If you're into hip-hop (or Budweiser commercials), you've probably at least heard of Kosha Dillz - but possibly not Chelsea Wolfe.

This video for "Moses Wasteland" allows you to get familiar with both artists as it features Mr. Dillz rapping over mashed up Chelsea Wolfe tracks Moses and Wasteland in a dark setting.  Paying some respects to fallen artist icons, while reflecting on some of his own life choices, Kosha spits some seriously dope verbiage, one-liners, honest reflections and even references Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure on the Nate G produced indie-rap mash up.  A few quotable nuggets and knowledge include:

"You can tell who a man is when you shake hands"
"You can snort all the coke, I will drink all the Sprite"
"Midnight in Chelsea with a couple of wolves"
"I'll write a million dollar verse for Justin Bieber while I take a shit"

Both artists are current L.A. residents - although the video was shot in the east coast region of New York City and New Jersey.  "Moses Wasteland" is the first single and video off of Kosha Dillz's JETLAG EP project which features him rapping over indie rock mash-ups from Black Keys, The Neighbourhood, Wavves and more.  Enjoy and cop the full EP for free via DJBooth!

Chelsea Wolfe (@cchelseawolfe) plays Check Yo Ponytail (@checkyoponytail) at Echoplex tomorrow - May 15, 2012.  Get your tickets here

Rock Pasta: The Wave Pictures "Spaghetti"

British rock troupe The Wave Pictures crash into Los Angeles this weekend for a performance tomorrow night at Echo with Allo Darlin' and Yellow Red Sparks.  With almost a decade's worth of self releases, and a name change to boot (formerly were Blind Summit) - David Tattersall, Franic Rozycki and Jonny Helm have earned their stripes.

Vice Magazine has said that they have "one of the most distinctive lyrical voices in Britain" and their charming pop is easy to feel on the tasty track "Spaghetti."  Its one of their newest tracks off of Long Black Cars, which was released on April 2nd.

Eat it up!

Tic Tic Boom! Release Before The Sun Rises

Tic Tic Boom! released a brand new EP today - Before The Sun Rises - and its admittedly pretty damn good.  The release comes amidst a hectic three months that already included multiple Official SXSW performances, 5 sets at Coachella and a handful of other shows and also brings a residency all the month of May at Lot 1 Cafe.

Starting on Wednesday May 2nd you can expect to hear a handful of Tic Tic BooM! originals each week of May at Lot 1 Cafe.  I strongly encourage you not to miss the opportunity because Boom's latest record shows a lot of growth.  Not only have they begun incorporating more electronics and self-made vocal samples,  but the hooks are pretty catchy ("Constellation Boy" is a rocker).  Before The Sun Rises is a welcome departure from lots of the melancholy LA indie rock I'm used to these days and also a fresh take on synth pop.   Judging by their recent climb up Hype Machine's popular charts with "For Feeling" (reached #9 on the popular twitter chart) - it seems the blogosphere agrees.

You can sample the new sounds on their website and you can watch them jam some of their latest tunes live in Jam In The Van below.

For a taste of their older material - check out this relatively new video for "The Open" which was on their 2011 release Reasons and Rhymes.

New Obsession - The Neighbourhood

Earlier this year, Pigeons & Planes, turned us onto a California groomed rock collective - The Neighbourhood - with the debut of a track titled "Female Robbery" and earlier this week they again delivered another treat from the group. This time "Sweater Weather" with a hook that proclaims you could hold hands through "the holes of my sweater."

Its catchy and nostalgic, been getting love from BBC's Zane Lowe and the video premiered on NME yesterday....plus the song charted to #1 on hypem.com. I'd say its been a pretty good stretch for the people in The Neighbourhood. Congratulations Jesse Rutherford and friends.

Black Box Revelation Comes to California

Bluesy garage rockers Black Box Revelation are stopping by the Wiltern this Saturday December 3 to join Beady Eye and we wanted to tip everyone off to what should be a fantastic show. The Belgian duo joins Beady Eye, the new band formed by Liam Gallagher and other Oasis members, and also gets support from Incan Abraham.

BBR's latest release Shiver of Joy is already making waves overseas, and their simplistic and powerful approach to 60s garage rock is known to turn some heads. Black Box Revelation uses skuzzy guitars and crashing drums to dress pop melodies in a trench coat of raw power and grit. If you need to hear Black Box Revelation before you call your friends to make plans, here’s a free download link for their EP title track “Shiver of Joy.”

We're giving away three pairs of tickets to the Saturday show - just tweet out @supergoodmusic @livenationLA and @wiltern in the same tweet or e-mail contest@supergoodmusic.com to enter.

If you have friends in San Francisco, let them know Black Box Revelation will be at The Warfield Friday, December 2!
