Valentine's Funk

Dam Funk brings his west coast flavor to the Lyric Theatre tonight to make your Valentine's day soiree fully FUNKtional.  For the singles - its a place to get your jive on, look cool and stay cool.  For the couples - show the crowd, which will undoubtedly feature some breakers, bad mommas and a few bangers, how you do your thing.

Along with Dam, Free Food, Oddience, Benedek and Techno Sam will be playing.  The event is hosted by the Lyric Foundation and a portion of the proceeds go to Urban Compass (http://www.urbancompass.org).  You can snag tickets in advance for the low low price of $10 via lyrictheatrela.com.

Lyric Theatre is located at 520 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90036

Grandma Inspires New Dubstep Dance?

My grandparents were never much into hip-hop and that stuck around. But my Mema actually has found some things to like about dub step, and apparently other people's grandparents have too. If that's not a sign of its staying power - I'm not really sure what is.

Peep this grandma. We'll call her quasi conductor movements with her hands 'dub fingers.'

And check out this grandpa getting down to Skrillex.

Dinner at the Taste of AK....Today Is A Good Day

In the Concert Blast this week we remarked that there wasn't too much great music in town tonight and today. Although the DO Over is always a Sunday afternoon activity of choice, this week I am heading to the Taste of Abbot Kinney. Despite not attending for any reason other than food - I've just come to learn that there is a significant music component featuring a handful of artists, including a grammy nominee (Bird York).

SO, if you are seeking some delightful Sunday afternoon entertainment and activities, look no further than today's Taste of Abbot Kinney festival. The event not only hosts a handsome lot of delicious food trucks, but apparently a handful of recording artists too.

Although I've never really heard of any of these artists and am not necessarily saying that their live performance(s) are "SUPERGOOD" - I know the food is going to be the whip and I wouldn't doubt that the music has been appropriately paired with the nosh.

Taste of Abbot Kinney commences today at 3 pm, but the music doesn't start until 3:30. Below is the schedule of artists and links to a few downloads that the artists provided.

Dubtroit One Year Anniversary Party w/ 12th Planet

12th Planet killed it tonight at Echoplex and it looks like he is going to resurface on Tuesday at Detroit Bar. I didn't include this in the blast because I don't think it was yet announced at that time, or at least Detroit Bar did not have the flyer up. BUT, now they do and it looks dubby and dope.

In addition to 12th Planet, Pawn & Emu, Dustmite, Steady & Kelly Dean and Tealong are all playing at the Dubtroit One Year Anniversary Party.

It is free with RSVP. Go to smogla.com to RSVP.
