SUPERGOODMUSIC Presents Supafresh Vol. 1

SUPERGOODMUSIC's first unofficial mixtape, unofficially circulated, has been out for a little over a month and the reviews are pretty fucking stellar. You might not find this mix of music on your average mixtape - I sway from electronic to hip-hop to soul/jazz and back....but the groove always maintains and the songs seem to go seamlessly from one to the next even though you get the full version of each song.

Considering I am already working on mixtape 2, I thought I'd dish out the digs on the first one. If you'd like to re-construct it yourself - here is the track listing:

1. 1901 (Customised by DLID) - Phoenix
2. Rockin To The Beat - Black Eyed Peas
3. One Day - The Juan MacLean
4. Sleepyhead (Streetlab Mix) - Passion Pit
5. Cocaine (The Knocks Remix) - Andrew W.K. & Dj. B. Rocc
6. The Kids Don't Stand A Chance - Miike Snow
7. I Poke Her Face - Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Common and Lady Gaga
8. Clean Apart - the cocknbullkid
9. Superstition - Estelle
10. Change - Wale feat. Daniel Merriweather
11. Pistols Of Fire (Mark Ronson Remix) - Kings of Leon
12. Kiss (Remix) - Z-Trip & Murs
13. Hip-Hop (Remix) - Diplo/Dead Prez
14. In For The Kill (Skream's Let's Get Ravey Remix) - La Roux
15. Listztomania (Classixx Version) - Phoenix
16. Animal (Punks Jump Up Remix) - Miike Snow
17. Shoes - Tiga
18. Jeffer - Boys Noize
19. Girls On The Dance Floor - Far East Movement
20. One (Santogold Starstruck Remix) feat. Grouch - Zion I

ORGONE

Great, great, great funk band from Los Angeles, Orgone, www.myspace.com/orgonemusic  absolutely tore apart The Mint on Friday night.  With a near packed house, and lots of soulful energy in the air as a result of Michael Jackson's passing, Orgone totally took the reigns of that energy and rode it into the funkmosphere.

The bass was slapping, the snares were hot, the brass was bopping and the funk was downright dirty.  I couldn't stop moving my feet.  The band seamlessly wove in a few Jackson teases, despite never breaking into a full-on Jackson tune.  Having elected to show up instead of going to Electric Daisy Carnival (which allegedly 130,000 people went to?!??!?!), I was pleased that it was a dance party in The Mint too.

Kicking off just around 11:30 - Orgone pumped through favorites like "Orgone Sophisticated Honky" and "Orgone A Wot."  Their show was live and fresh - and their singer has a deep and wide-ranging soulful sound kind of like Sharon Jones.  In fact, the whole make-up is very much like Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and the Ubiquity bands' sound is very similar to their Daptones Records counterparts.

They will be back through LA soon - at the Funk Rumble Block Party in mid-July and then in August at Sunset Junction Street Festival, where Arrested Development will also be performing.  If you missed them this time - make sure you're there to catch em in July and August.  For all you know - they could be the band backing the next Amy Winehouse (can I hear a cocknbullkid or possibly a funk band backing Little Boots?)

CONCERT BLAST 6/29 - 7/5

June is closing out with a few treats for us cheap concert-goers.  Tonight brings us a free show by Steve Aoki at The Roxy, brought to you by Mark ‘The Cobrasnake.”  If you are in the mood to dance, and want a high likelihood of some tasteful and timely Michael Jackson remixes – I’d probably head there.

If you’re feeling more like a laid back, lounging, rock’n’roll sort of evening – come to Hunnypot Unlimited in Culver City – for their every other week radio show.  Tonight, Stone Foxes will be performing a few songs acoustically.  I’m totally digging the Foxes right now – their album, their grit and their raw sound all add up to a success story waiting to happen.  If you can’t check them out tonight – they bring their battle axes to The Viper Room on Wednesday July 1st.

Stone Foxes are not the only band kicking off LA’s July concert calendar – Wednesday July 1st is arguably one of the top music nights for rising talent this year with The French Semester, Far East Movement, Dr. Hollywood, McTuff, and the Eulogies each performing.  If you are sticking on the eastside – you might be able to bounce between The French Semester at Silverlake Lounge around midnight and Eulogies at Echo.  If you’re in the Sunset area – perhaps you can bounce from Stone Foxes at Viper Room (around 11 pmish) to Far East Movement and Dr. Hollywood at The Roxy.

As we spill into the holiday weekend, you’re going to have a lot of things competing for your time – but if you want to whip out your dancing shoes – you might consider heading to The Avalon on Thursday for the Michael Jackson tribute (til 3 am) or to go see Treasure Fingers on Friday.  If you’ve got an itch to be more outdoorsy and festive or are simply feeling like a holiday festival, you should check out California Music Festival in Ventura, CA.  Over the two day event (July 3rd and 4th) there will be performances by The Matches, The French Semester, Unwritten Law, Blackbyrd Midnight, Year of the Dragon, Kid Frost, Lisa Donnelly, Jet Stream and many others.
