New Heat: FIND MY WAY by MIND THE GAP

Hopefully you've been watching your step in the music game in early 2013 - because then you might already be familiar with Mind The Gap and their edgy bouncy electronic pop rock single "Find My Way."  To celebrate their ballsy anthem - they released a performance video yesterday and made the song available in exchange for an e-mail address on their website  www.mindthegapsound.com.  Teenagers to 30 somethings filled with angst about life need this track on their mobile phone, ipod and computer STAT - it speaks directly to the struggles we've all experienced trying to figure this thing called life out and the song beats hard and f'ing pops!

"Find My Way" is the first single off of MTG's forthcoming EP Youth due out sometime later in 2013.  If this track portends what the rest of their EP is like - I'm expecting fierce and energetic dopeness in a diverse package.   And why shouldn't I have that expecation?  MTG may be able to lay claim to the title "most diverse rock band" as they're a truly unique quartet spearheaded by a Jewish vocalist from the suburbs of Cleveland, OH, and backed by Sri Lankan hip-hop producer, a Mexican guitarist/producer and a Korean songwriter.   Not only does their diversity make a statement - their musicianship and on-stage chemistry truly validates the famous Abdul line "opposites attract" and evidences that sometimes the best content comes in the most unlikely and colorful of packages.

You can catch MTG performing at The Hotel Cafe on February 15th, but check their website for updates as there will likely be a few other performances popping up and peep the video below with the filthy remixed outro....

Disco Nap All Day!

Between being a music trend setting pioneer, co-owner of a label and a digital master of ceremonies on decks everywhere, A-Trak somehow managed to record a handful of new bangers to add to his setlists.

The bass he found is stinky like fish and the tracks are hot enough to melt your finest Emmentaler, so the EP is appropriately titled Tuna Melt.  The best track IMO, "Disco Nap," makes my subs purr like they're having a wet dream.

Tuna Melt also features Tommy Trash, GTA, Oliver and Galantis.   Grab it here via i-tunes or stream it from Fool's Gold's Soundcloud.

Weapons of Audio Premier Peruvian Pan Flute Beatbox on Jam In The Van

Fresh off the presses and straight out the fryer, Weapons of Audio dropped another hot piece of content today – “Life Goes” - the second acoustic video from their Jam In The Van sessions.   The poetic tale of life’s trials and tribulations features the premier of the Peruvian pan flute beatbox and continues the brother’s trend of creating a unique blend of soul, hip-hop and indie rock ethos.  Although it’s a live version,  Weapons of Audio crush another new track from their forthcoming untitled EP.

They’ll also be crushing stages this week –starting with Echoplex on Monday August 27th at Check Yo Ponytail 2 along with Tokimonsta, The Very Best and Jonwayne and then Labor Day weekend at City Stock Festival hosted by the great Jeff Miller (Black Crystal Wolf Kids).   Get your tickets for Check Yo Ponytail here

You can catch another Weapons of Audio video from JITV (included below) as well as many other videos from rising artists around the country.  Make sure the Jam Van can keep making mobile music content by voting for them in this Samsung Startup Thrillist contest here.

Murda Bizness

Iggy Azalea's finally put out something to follow up the down-under "Pu$$y" anthem that is worth talking about - "Murda Bizness," which features ad libs, breathing and a verse from her boss man T.I.  The swag heavy ode to killing features a perked up toddlers & tiaras style music video that just dropped this week.  Her EP, Glory, is expected shortly.

Indie Rock-Rap Mash Up Monday

If you're into indie-rock, you might have heard of Los Angelina Chelsea Wolfe - but not Kosha Dillz (@koshadillz).  If you're into hip-hop (or Budweiser commercials), you've probably at least heard of Kosha Dillz - but possibly not Chelsea Wolfe.

This video for "Moses Wasteland" allows you to get familiar with both artists as it features Mr. Dillz rapping over mashed up Chelsea Wolfe tracks Moses and Wasteland in a dark setting.  Paying some respects to fallen artist icons, while reflecting on some of his own life choices, Kosha spits some seriously dope verbiage, one-liners, honest reflections and even references Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure on the Nate G produced indie-rap mash up.  A few quotable nuggets and knowledge include:

"You can tell who a man is when you shake hands"
"You can snort all the coke, I will drink all the Sprite"
"Midnight in Chelsea with a couple of wolves"
"I'll write a million dollar verse for Justin Bieber while I take a shit"

Both artists are current L.A. residents - although the video was shot in the east coast region of New York City and New Jersey.  "Moses Wasteland" is the first single and video off of Kosha Dillz's JETLAG EP project which features him rapping over indie rock mash-ups from Black Keys, The Neighbourhood, Wavves and more.  Enjoy and cop the full EP for free via DJBooth!

Chelsea Wolfe (@cchelseawolfe) plays Check Yo Ponytail (@checkyoponytail) at Echoplex tomorrow - May 15, 2012.  Get your tickets here

Tic Tic Boom! Release Before The Sun Rises

Tic Tic Boom! released a brand new EP today - Before The Sun Rises - and its admittedly pretty damn good.  The release comes amidst a hectic three months that already included multiple Official SXSW performances, 5 sets at Coachella and a handful of other shows and also brings a residency all the month of May at Lot 1 Cafe.

Starting on Wednesday May 2nd you can expect to hear a handful of Tic Tic BooM! originals each week of May at Lot 1 Cafe.  I strongly encourage you not to miss the opportunity because Boom's latest record shows a lot of growth.  Not only have they begun incorporating more electronics and self-made vocal samples,  but the hooks are pretty catchy ("Constellation Boy" is a rocker).  Before The Sun Rises is a welcome departure from lots of the melancholy LA indie rock I'm used to these days and also a fresh take on synth pop.   Judging by their recent climb up Hype Machine's popular charts with "For Feeling" (reached #9 on the popular twitter chart) - it seems the blogosphere agrees.

You can sample the new sounds on their website and you can watch them jam some of their latest tunes live in Jam In The Van below.

For a taste of their older material - check out this relatively new video for "The Open" which was on their 2011 release Reasons and Rhymes.

Tic Tic Boom EP Release Show for Reasons & Rhymes

Local indie synth band Tic Tic Boom! take to The Viper Room's stage to wow a Sunset Strip crowd with their newly discovered penchant for a more Passion Pit-esque feel. Leaving behind some of their former punk gusto and embracing a slower tempo that is more synthesizer friendly, Leilani Francisco and Mike DeLay are now making music that grabs the attention of not just L.A.'s Sunset Strip crowd, but also its eastside faction. With catchy, quirky hooks belted by Leilani and Mike's heavily layered production - Tic Tic Boom are hoping their DIY efforts turn some heads in 2011.

We are running a giveaway for tickets on our twitter and facebook pages - and you can also RSVP to the facebook event here - http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=186469588045511 The door price is $5 and everyone who comes for Tic Tic Boom! will get a copy of the EP with their attendance. You can check out a sneak peak download of their track "Just Friends" which is on the EP.

With another local synth based group, Odd Modern, providing support - the night should be filled with indie hipsters indulging in some electrified sounds. Odd Modern gives away all of their music for free at www.oddmodern.com. Check out this Odd Modern video featuring Steve O below:
