On this interesting date (10/11/12) – there are a few line
ups with a one, two, three punch that may make your music taste buds
salivate. AWOLNATION, Imagine Dragons
and Zeale at Club Nokia has to be the tastiest bill and its only made sweeter
by the fact that they are giving away a free EP at http://awolnationmusic.com/downloads/
K. Flay, Michna and Air Dubai should deliver for the hip-hop
set, while Jhameel, Tic Tic Boom! and Trapdoor Special should hopefully do the
same over at Saint Rocke for South Bay residents that dig emerging indie artists.
Spectacular musicianship will undoubtedly be on display at
Coach House where Steve Kimcok, Bernie Worrell, Wally Ingram and Andy Hess take
stage. The same can likely be said for
the interesting Dudamel Conducts Where The Wild Things Are at Walt Disney
Concert Hall – which begins its first of four consecutive nights.
Other notable acts include Girl Talk with Dev at The Observatory, Dr. John at The Valley Performing Arts Center and Egyptian Lover at New Wave Bar. Find a full list of LA's shows tonight below
Harlow Gold @ Harvelle’s
FD and The Club Pacific Band, Mollusk Sound + Special Guests
@ Del Monte Speakeasy
Up and coming indie-synth rock sensation Tic Tic Boom! bring their talents to Pasadena today as part of the Eat. See. Hear. series that launches this weekend and is taking place each Saturday night into September. With food trucks on the front end and The Wedding Singer being aired on
the back end - there is no reason not to enjoy Tic Tic Boom! as the "Hear." portion of
your entertainment sandwich on June 2, 2012.
Although outside booze is not allowed - you can bring your own picnic to the party. Blankets and lawn chairs are not provided. Tickets to the E.S.H. get down are $10 and $20 here. For $10 it is GA consumption, but the $20 passes allow you to arrive at your leisure and still be guaranteed a good spot for SEEing.
Make your
midweek more exciting with some great residencies tonight - Matt Chamberlain at The Mint
or Tic Tic Boom! at Lot 1 Cafe. The former is joined by keys/B3
extraordinaire Marco Benevento and the latter are joined by We Are/She Is and
Odd Modern to round out an eclectic, LGBT friendly indie rock bill.
For some
throwback sounds - The Roxy rolls out the Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde party
that sees the return of the original Pharcyde crew. Don't let that show
pass you by, although I wouldn't blame you for electing Rock for the Rack with
Leo Nocentelli of the Funky Meters instead. Both should deliver nostalgia
inducing performances.
Los
Angeleno native and soon to be Bonnaroo performer Robert Francis holds down the
fort that is Troubadour. In other names that should be on your radar -
Love In The Circus performs at Zanzibar, Sonnymoon, Kone and CBG beat down The
Airliner for Low End Theory and Dandelo delivers freenoise on The Satellite crowd.
Other notables include a free show at Slidebar with Seedless and Zen
Robbi, Aceyalone at a re-opened Little Temple, Devandra Banhart at The
Observatory and House of Vibe All-Stars at Harvelles.

Tic Tic Boom! released a brand new EP today - Before The Sun Rises - and its admittedly pretty damn good. The release comes amidst a hectic three months that already included multiple Official SXSW performances, 5 sets at Coachella and a handful of other shows and also brings a residency all the month of May at Lot 1 Cafe.
Starting on Wednesday May 2nd you can expect to hear a handful of Tic Tic BooM! originals each week of May at Lot 1 Cafe. I strongly encourage you not to miss the opportunity because Boom's latest record shows a lot of growth. Not only have they begun incorporating more electronics and self-made vocal samples, but the hooks are pretty catchy ("Constellation Boy" is a rocker). Before The Sun Rises is a welcome departure from lots of the melancholy LA indie rock I'm used to these days and also a fresh take on synth pop. Judging by their recent climb up Hype Machine's popular charts with "For Feeling" (reached #9 on the popular twitter chart) - it seems the blogosphere agrees.
You can sample the new sounds on their website and you can watch them jam some of their latest tunes live in Jam In The Van below.
For a taste of their older material - check out this relatively new video for "The Open" which was on their 2011 release Reasons and Rhymes.

Your holiday party calendars might already be half full, half over or just getting started - regardless, their getting a dosage of cool on Wednesday night when The Viper Room hosts our annual Mustache & Ugly Sweater Party, now going into its 3rd year.
With awards going to ugliest sweaters and most creative mustache - its a night of unique looks (I for one will have on a heinous sweater and will be sporting a real mustache for the first time in almost two years). It is also a night of unique (and supergood) music from the likes of Tic Tic Boom!, Standing Shadows, Hyena, Odd Modern and Das Tapes!
Each act is talented in their own right - with all of them emerging from the greater L.A. region other than Hyena (Arizona). They'll be packing the Sunset Strip with synthy indie rock - peppered with undertones of electronic or punk rock depending on whom you're referring to. For many of the artists it is their last show of 2011 (Tic Tic Boom!, Odd Modern, Standing Shadows) and for one, Odd Modern, it is their EP release show as well. Its also their drummer Gerardo's birthday.
If the holidays weren't enough reason to celebrate - we're certainly giving you a few more. Join Odd Modern as they celebrate a whole host of events (EP release, birthday, holidays) and join us as we rejoice in an excellent 2011. Find Boom D during Tic Tic Boom!'s set early on and rejoice in a complimentary drink courtesy of the SUPERGOOD founder himself. Once he spends a few $100s on you fans though, he's done being your secret santa of alcohol - so get there early to take advantage!
RSVP via facebook here and get your tickets here via Ticketweb. If you're not yet convinced that The Viper Room is where you need to be come Wednesday, than check out some videos from the performers below:
Local indie synth rock couple comprised of Leilani Francisco and Mike Delay, but better known as Tic Tic Boom! recently released this cute video starring their pseudo-child (their dog). The two Monday night, November 21st, at The Echo with the other members (drummer and bassist) of Tic Tic Boom! to continue their recent blitz of the local scene that has seen the act perform at Saint Rocke, Harvard & Stone, USC, The Central SAPC, Space 15 Twenty, Lot 1 Cafe and more.
Those who may have missed out on those - might have heard "Just Friends" on KROQ or caught it on Friend Zone or The Real L Word, where TTB music has recently been featured. Whether you're already hip to them or not - check out the cute video, as well as a live rendition of the same. If you like what you see/hear - you can get some more of that tonight at The Echo for FREE where the band is joined by K. Flay, Lesands and resident The Chain Gang of 1974!
You can check out all things Tic Tic Boom! on their website here, where you can pick up their recently released acoustic EP "Bare." They will also be playing the SUPERGOODMUSIC SUPERDOPE series at The Viper Room for our year end Mustache & Sweater Party on Wednesday December 14th!
Tonight begins a series of Halloween inspired concerts that are not likely to stop until some time late at night on Monday, when the holiday actually occurs.
Addicted to Shows is getting things started early with their Haunted Hollywood event featuring rising indie synth act Tic Tic BooM! and their friends Robotanists. Joining the haunted hump day spectacular are two well spoken (or written) local DJs, L.A. Weekly's Drew Fortune AKA DJ Tanner and Buzzbands.LA's Seraphina L, as well as Steve Livigni. Below is an acoustic version of Tic Tic Boom's latest single "Bees" and a video for The Robotanists "On/Off The Ledge."
LA's tasty (and sometimes spicy) Nacho Truck is joining the fun with some limited edition Tic Tic Boom! Nachos that come with a free download card of tunes. Anthony Greco is bringing scary beverage mixing skills too.
It all goes down at Harvard & Stone at 5221 Hollywood Blvd. beginning at 8 pm tonight.
It seems like light years ago that I predicted Foster The People’s smile music was the sound of the future.Having premiered “Pumped Up Kicks” in SUPERGOODMUSIC’s Concert Blast in early 2010 and claimed it would be the next big thing – its been validating seeing it rise up the charts.
The bands two consecutive sold out shows tonight and tomorrow at El Rey Theatre shouldn’t come as a surprise given their album Torches blazed to number 8 on the Billboard charts, the album moved over 50,000 units and “Pumped Up Kicks” climbed to #1 on the alternative charts. That said, the sell out happened long before those sales figures were in – perhaps a testament to the band's vast array of festival performances on the calendar (Coachella, Sasquatch, Glastonbury, Outside Lands, etc.) or their home grown hype fueled by not only our blog’s love, but support from influential stations like KROQ.BTW, if you dont have tickets to their show - they are doing an after party with the Dance Right crew at La Cita. RSVP if you want to get in.
If you were part of the clan that got tickets to the shows – then you’re in for a glance at one of today’s emerging electro indie rock dance-pop acts.Foster The People’s electro rock-pop (indie doesn’t befit a band signed to a subdivision of Columbia) performances bear clear influence from electronic bands like Miike Snow, Cut Copy and others, as do the directions of some of their remixes – including this exclusive SUPERGOODMUSIC hosted gem “Pumped Up Kicks (Polaris At Noon Remix).”
The intro keys portend the dreamy danceathon that explodes at forty-six seconds into the song and from there, the anti-hero jam takes flight. If PUK was the Song of Summer 2010 as we, BlackBookMag and countless other bloggers had suggested, this remix might just be the right rework of that hipster anthem – ready to bear the title of Song of Summer 2011.
For another local LA band that is pumping out music worthy of consideration (and are friends of Foster The People’s drummer Mark Pontius) check out Tic Tic Boom!Their latest release “Bees” is a cute little indie offering that is ripe for summer.Their recent acoustic performance on Hunnypot Radio turned a lot of ears and brought questions on when their acoustic EP will be recorded (soon) and when their next performances are (The Central SAPC on July 27th with Kissing Cousins and Correatown). If you have not checked this band out yet – visit their website at www.ticticboommusic.com and get "Bees" for free from their bandcamp page.
Also worthy of summer rotation, but of a totally different music vein, are Weapons of Audio's "If You Want Me"off of their Bipolar record and the just released RZA track that features new LA resident and rising hip-hop MC, Kosha Dillz as well as the legendary Kool G Rap.RZA dropped “Operator” on his facebook and soundcloud page for #WuWednesdays yesterday – giving crowds of heads a hot potato to marinate over after July 4th BBQs were officially over. The unexpected release of "Operator" came on the same day as Kosha's teaser for his documentary dropped that follows him through some of his trials and tribulations as one of the hardest working MCS in hip-hop.
If you're hip to cannabis culture, you'd know today is a holiday for the avid weed smoker. You might also know that Slightly Stoopid is playing at Greek Theatre tonight, where they are joined by Bad Brains, Barrington Levy and special guests Karl Denson, Del Tha Funky Homosapien and Don Carlos. This line-up is like a mini-festival and I'm sure it will be some stanky funky 'ish (both audibly and odorously).
If you can't foot the bill for that, or you just want to kick it low key with the Stoopid boys post show - El Cid is hosting the after party, where they will be showing Reefer Madness and have performances from Stonefeather and The Originalites amongst others.
There are plenty of musicians elsewhere around town, including ones that embrace the bottle over the cheeba. You could share a drink with some rising locals at any eastside indie enclave - and I plan on doing just that at Silverlake Lounge with Risers at 9:15, as well as with Tic Tic Boom! at Bootleg at 11:30. I like both acts songwriting a lot - Tic Tic Boom!'s catchy "Just Friends" on Locals Only has caught my ear (as well as their latest "Bees") and Risers sort of wowed me at The Satellite last week with their performance of Devil's Game. Check that out here -
Risers are joined by Aerial Stereo (8:30), Handshakes (10), Mile Greene (10:45) and Y Luv (11:30); Tic Tic Boom! are joined by Old Scholar (10:30) and Tyler Steele & The Helping Thieves (9:30) as well as I Promote Good Bands and Zoomania Music crews.
Hope to see you out tonight. New Los Angeles Concert Blast published tomorrow!
Local indie synth band Tic Tic Boom! take to The Viper Room's stage to wow a Sunset Strip crowd with their newly discovered penchant for a more Passion Pit-esque feel. Leaving behind some of their former punk gusto and embracing a slower tempo that is more synthesizer friendly, Leilani Francisco and Mike DeLay are now making music that grabs the attention of not just L.A.'s Sunset Strip crowd, but also its eastside faction. With catchy, quirky hooks belted by Leilani and Mike's heavily layered production - Tic Tic Boom are hoping their DIY efforts turn some heads in 2011.
We are running a giveaway for tickets on our twitter and facebook pages - and you can also RSVP to the facebook event here - http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=186469588045511 The door price is $5 and everyone who comes for Tic Tic Boom! will get a copy of the EP with their attendance. You can check out a sneak peak download of their track "Just Friends" which is on the EP.
With another local synth based group, Odd Modern, providing support - the night should be filled with indie hipsters indulging in some electrified sounds. Odd Modern gives away all of their music for free at www.oddmodern.com. Check out this Odd Modern video featuring Steve O below:
