Go HAM with Kids & Explosions this Wednesday at The Central SAPC as the oscar-nominated mash-up artist Josh Raskin introduces you to his madness....which is kind of like an AP or Ivy League version of Girl Talk.  Kids & Explosions material is just superior to those pseudo standard schitzo pop mash-ups.   Here is a sample below...

Mashup Maestros Make LA's Westside Their Playground

Tomorrow night mashup superheroes - The Hood Internet - bring their crunkity collaborative jams to the dance floors of The Central SAPC, just a night after wrecking Detroit Bar...

The Chicago based duo's been critically acclaimed for the treatment of pop, indie, hip-hop and electro music alike as they frequently release hypem.com chart topping blends that make their way to most college frat party playlists.  From taking Drake and layering him over Miike Snow to cutting up Wale over M83, this duo's recipe is usually the mash up version of Emeril Lagasse - BAM!  And they've smacked you with their signature sounding hot sauce.

Download some Hood Internet tracks from their website here and peep a few more below.  Get tickets to The Central SAPC here.   Tanya Morgan and Psalm One support.

Warning - show is likely to sell out, so cop them while you can!  Try entering our contest for a pair of tickets by tweeting out @supergoodmusic @thecentralsapc or emailing contest@supergoodmusic.com if you can't afford it or are feeling lucky....

Sunday Funday: The Do Over, Dub Frequency's Guess Event at Drai's and Miami Horror at Dim Mak Cannonball Sundays

Each year - I get uber excited to attend The Do Over - because it is hands down, the best music event in Los Angeles on most Sunday afternoons.   The tunes are always impressive - even though its often a mystery who will be performing - and the crowd 's always eclectic.

Today will be the first time I attend this season - because sadly, the SUPERGOODMUSIC train has not been able to make it yet in 2012.    BUT its a great day for boogying down in Hollyhood because on top of The Do Over, Treasure Fingers performs at Dub Frequency's Guess event at Drai's Hollywood from 12-6 too and then Miami Horror takes over for Dim Mak's Cannonball Sundays later that night.

You can RSVP for all the events - but arriving early is advised....which means, I got to stop typing and get in my ride.  DO OVER - here I come.

The Do Over happens every Sunday in Los Angeles in the summer from 2-10 PM at LURE (formerly Cabana Club) at 1439 Ivar Avenue.  RSVP at thedoover.net/la

DELON'S MEMORIAL POOL PARTY RAGER w/ Delon, Dean Risko, Electric Drip & More!

Its kind of officially the kick off of summer this weekend - charcoal's getting hot, pools are getting filled, booze is flowing freely and skin is more exposed.   Just in case you weren't convinced - there are some festivals (Lightning In A Bottle, Silverlake Jubilee) too.

Assuming you're not fest-ing it up, or even if you are headed to Jubilee, you might want to consider a trip to Pasadena on Sunday at noon for DELON'S MEMORIAL WEEKEND POOL RAGER.  It's the launch of a series of pool parties that the DJ/MC will be hosting and performing at all summer long - from private residences, to swanky hotels.   BUT - unlike the others - this one is the first and comes along with free alcohol (including some tasty tasty XANTE), free food and, of course, free entry.  Space is limited - so you might want to RSVP to musicfuturenow@gmail.com to ensure you and your guests are included.  You can also RSVP via Facebook here.

Not convinced?  On top of being one of the first in LA to witness the Sri Lankan phenom drop his poppy party starter "Body Rock" - you may get a taste of some of his other unreleased material, as well as visits from other upstarts like Dean Risko, Electric Drip and Joy Island!  Check out Delon, Risko and Electric Drip's videos below.  Electric Drip's video is like Beastie Boys "Sabotage" had a baby with aliens and dub step music and that baby was a music video.

I'm heading out because not only are the musicians talented - but who can refuse free booze and food by the pool?  Not me.   Neither can Before The Bigs - the blog hosting the event.  Hope to see you at 880 Rosalind Rd., San Marino, CA 91108!

Electronic Music's Next Huge Thing: Porter Robinson

If you felt like you were late to the Skrillex party last year, don't make the same mistake twice. We hope you learned your lesson and are already hip to Porter Robinson because he could be the next act to blow the roof off of electronic music. The 19-year-old’s accomplishments thus far rival many seasoned veterans’ and may we remind you he’s only 19?!?

Having just completed a tour supporting Tiesto in which Robinson performed for the largest DJ event in US history (approximately 26,000 were in attendance), his peers are already touting him as one of the nu-breed saviors of electronic music. Porter Robinson was featured on Billboard’s “Top 21 Under 21” list, and managed to crash Beatport’s servers when he released his Spitfire EP earlier this year. He’s already remixed the likes of Lady Gaga and Avicii with several more A-list offers rolling in. What’s that, you want to see Porter Robinson live? Well you’re in luck because he’s stopping by The Music Box Saturday December 3rd (get tickets here).

If you can, clear your schedule on the 3rd…you won’t be disappointed.

Eli James - Spanking Skin....Drum Skins

If you've been hip to the underbelly of the L.A. scene, found yourself at the Sunset Jubilee in May (not the Silverlake Jubilee) or you've got a constant hankering for drums - you might be familiar with the artist Eli James. If not, you're response to an Eli James question might just be "Who the fuck is Eli James?"

Well, this below video should do a lot more justice to explaining that than the words I write - but suffice it to say James is part of a new breed of musicians. More than just a drummer - he is a multi-talented DJ, engineer, storyteller and performer. A one-man, skin beating, bass drum stomping, dance floor wrecking drummer.

With LED lights synched to his kit, a James performance is a total sensory experience. Its also a walk through pop nostalgia as he pops off personalized live remixes of chart toppers like Kanye West, Katy Perry, Nine Inch Nails and more. He takes his sensory overloading performance around the country this summer starting next week when he kicks off his Pump Up The Jam Tour 2011 in San Antonio, TX that ultimately delivers him to Los Angeles and the Sunset Strip for the esteemed Sunset Strip Music Festival where he will play Friday night at The Viper Room and Saturday on the main block.

Lo Down Loretta Brown in Downtown San Fran (Show Review)

Oh my, my, my, the audience was feelin’ high. Dj Lo Down Loretta Brown, aka Erykah Badu and @FatBellyBella on twitter, screwed up some ditties on 4.20.2011 for a night of soul, funk, and hip-hop on the turntables at Ruby Skye in downtown San Francisco. It’s one thing to hear the beautiful Badu belt out some soulful lyrics, but to watch this woman play with tracks that she’s influenced by is something that’s on a whole other level. Just by watching her spin, you can see her love for music being poured out of her head and shaken on the table. She had the entire place rocking their hips or AT LEAST bobbing their heads to her bass driven beats. To top things off, she almost made it a chore to keep her audience in check by singing a little flow here and there and stopping the occasional track to let audience take over control on vocals and sing-a-long. Erykah, if you want to have me sing-a-long with you just give me a beat and a headwrap and I’m there, Ma.

'Roo Round Up - Part I

Dr. Dog Acoustic Show - 06/11/2010

I’m currently sitting en route back on the Monday after Bonnaroo – trying to recover from the plethora of music that saturated my ears the way the sticky Tennessee heat engulfed my body – and I’m still in recovery mode.

Even three beers deep at the local stomping grounds (O’Charley’s in the C Terminal), I’m still running off about Orgone’s funktastical throwdown on Sunday; Deadmau5 ridiculous LED light show, mouse helmet included; Jay-Z’s stellar but 33% too short set (ending 30 minutes early?); The Gossip doing “I Will Always Love You” as their encore and Jay Electronica inviting an entire tent on stage while he ripped some a capella over J Dilla, amongst other highlights. If it is not clear already, the festival of all American festivals was as epic as the line-up suggested it might be.

From the chart-topping fire of new artists like B.o.B. (who played about 45 minutes deeper into the wee wee night than expected) to the old school stylings of Stevie Wonder and John Fogerty, there was a serving of music for any palate or ear. SUPERGOODMUSIC got heavy dosages of some of our favorite electronic artists and DJs (Bassnectar, Deadmau5, Crystal Method, DJ Logic), hip-hop artists (Kid Cudi, Jay Electronica, B.o.B., Jay-Z, Nas, Wale), jam, funk and dub bands (Disco Biscuits, Lotus, Galactic, Medeski Martin & Wood, Orgone, Rebelution, Big Sam’s Funky Nation) to rock and roll trendsetters and pioneers (Kings of Leon, Dave Matthews Band, John Fogerty, Phoenix, Weezer, Ozomatli, The XX, Daryl Hall & Chromeo).

Below you’ll find a few choice pictures from our experience. Be sure to check back soon and often for more follow-up Bonnaroo coverage, including a feature in the CONCERT BLAST coming out later this week and A Day In The 'Roo story, as well as some Supergood fan submitted videos! Thanks again to Big Hassle and everyone else who made our Bonnaroo 2010 experience more than memorable...

Back in Business - Orgone Pulled Out My O Face

It's so great to be back in Los Angeles. Things are moving forward in the music world - and LA is really the center of our music world. We quickly got back to it last night with stops at both Spaceland, for Orgone (pronounced Org-own, similar in sound to organ) and Nomo and then a stop at The Roxy for Scion's House Party featuring 12th Planet, amongst others.

With all the excitement, RCA ended up leaving his wallet at home...so the night started a little bit later than expected. Nonetheless, it was a funk-filled return to Los Angeles last night – as I basically went from the airport to Spaceland to see Nomo & Orgone throw it down.

Orgone, the female vocalized funk band from California, came on at about 10 p.m. and were nothing short of spectacular. In addition to the on fire rhythms coming from the bassist, drummer and percussionist - the three piece horn section did their part to round out the funkfest.

They rifled through material new and old, including several stretches of seamless transitions between songs that kept the energy going. You could’ve closed your eyes and thought you were in a bar in New Orleans in the ‘70s. Midway through their performance they had managed to assemble a little dance party near the front of the stage that they kept moving with heavy rhythms on “Funky Nassau” and a raucous cover of “I Get Lifted.” To make the vibe even cooler – DJ Nu Mark was in the house getting his boogie on too.

Having enjoyed themselves a bit too much on stage and with the crowd, Fanny Franklin led the pack through a speedy closer

Nomo came on a long forty minutes after Orgone stepped off stage. The Ubiquity label midwest natives showcased a different side of jazz - one that was a little less funky, a little more melodic, but nonetheless extremely rhythmic. Part of that rhythm was held down by Eric Hall, one of the two drummers performing, who also played rhythm guitar at times. He and Elliott, the bands ringleader, have been staples of Nomo since the bands birth in Ann Arbor.

Performing to a handsome size crowd, Nomo continued fueling the trend of dancing bodies on the dance-floor well past midnight. Unfortunately, we did not catch the end of their show...but that is because we went to The Roxy for Scion's event.

We didn't bring our camera inside, so we have no photos to share - but we'll try and remember to do that next time. Who knew so many dubstep hungry youngsters would come out on a Wednesday night? Not only did we shake with the fiery bass, we witnessed some feisty youngsters throw it down in the lobby, some American Apparel poster children getting freaky on the dance-floor and candy flippers and dope smokers getting arrested on the sidewalk. It had all the makings of a reality show a la Jersey Shore.
