Win A Free Trip to New Zealand to Hang With Naked & Famous

Naked & Famous aren't just an awesome act from down under parading through Los Angeles' The Music Box in a few weeks (October 17th) with The Chain Gang of 1974 and White Arrows. They are actually a smashing act from New Zealand who are getting lots of deserved recognition back in their homeland. We’re super excited to share that they've invited us to participate in a contest sponsored by Air New Zealand that would take some lucky fan to New Zealand to see them perform on their own turf.
Air New Zealand is giving only TWO fans of The Naked and Famous a chance to fly to New Zealand and get the VIP treatment for five days. But - it gets better. On top of paying for the flight from LA to NZ both ways, Air New Zealand (@FlyAirNZ) is paying for five nights of hotel accommodations and tickets to The Naked and Famous’ headlining show at Auckland Town Hall on November 4th. The prizes keep coming…
On November 3rd the winners also get to attend the New Zealand Music Awards (think the Grammy’s) as VIP guests of the band, a tour of Waihiki Island, a visit to South Island and the city of Queenstown and a traditional Maori experience on the West Coast. It sounds like an indie rockers honeymoon.....

All this in order to hang out with an amazing band who, by the way, currently has over 20 million views on YouTube. Their 2010 release, Passive Me, Aggressive You, peaked at 91 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 1 on the New Zealand Albums Chart. TNAF is also nominated for six New Zealand Music Awards: Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Best Group, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Best Alternative Album and the People's Choice Award. Check out the video for "Young Blood" below:
So, let’s recap shall we? If you enter you could win Air New Zealand’s The Naked and Famous contest which includes:
·Two round trip flights to Auckland from Los Angeles or San Francisco (departing Nov 1 and returning Nov 6)
·Exclusive Air New Zealand airport lounge passes
·Five nights hotel accommodations in New Zealand
·VIP tickets to the New Zealand Music Awards at the Tuis at the Vector Arena (Nov 3)
·VIP tickets to The Naked and Famous’ headlining show at the Auckland Town Hall (Nov 4)
·Waihiki Island excursion
·West Coast Maori Bush walk
·Flights and accommodations to Queenstown (South Island)
All I ask, is why wouldn't you enter this contest? To enter go here by 11:59 PM EST Friday October 14th. The winners will be announced on Monday October 17th.
Good luck and, if you win, take me - please.

Bonobo/Tokimonsta on Black Friday

On Friday night big names were glowing on the marquees of Los Angeles. Dawes was back in town at the El Rey. Pretty Lights was rolling hard at the Wiltern, and Bonobo assembled an orchestra for his show at the Music Box. You can only imagine the struggle I went through to decide which one of these events to attend. Thanks to SUPERGOODMUSIC, no blood was lost during my internal battle.
Friday, 9:15 PM rolls around. I arrive at the Music Box and the line has reached around the building. The "think before you print" mantra saves the earth but wastes my time. Not having a hard copy of my ticket set me back 40 minutes due to will call moving slower than my lazy brother. (love you!) I shouldn't even be complaining - I was on guest list. Ha!
Once inside I was greeted with straight up noise. Tokimonsta was rocking her groove and, despite technical difficulties, she kept the crowd warm. Her transitions kept you on your toes; some of her mashups came from left field – but the shakers loved it. Its nice to see a girl DJ every once in a while. Represent.
However, every damn person in that theatre was there to see one man and one man only, Simon Green. You know him better as Bonobo. Correction - you had Bonobo (a full band + then some). A keyboardist/synthesist, drummer, vocalist, harpist, saxophonist and other wind instruments I won't even attempt to name, all enveloped the stage and made sweet music like it was nobody's business. This guy has been jamming for a decade; you can hear his soul hasn't aged a beat.
His sound is fresh and clean. SO fresh and so clean. Bonobo manipulated live instruments while people would walk on & off stage depending on whether or not a song required their talent. Every so often he came out and played his acoustic & the crowd would go nuts. The man conducted hue musicians & your emotions to give you a beautiful - never to be forgotten - Bonobo experience.

Empire of The Sun Loses U.S. Virginity

Having first performed in the states at Lollapalooza on August 6th, Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore are basically virgins to how U.S., no less Los Angeles and the west coast, do our indie electro jams. However, from what I've heard, they were prepped to deliver and are performing indie-electro anthems in an atmosphere described as a "a balls to the wall rave party."
If you think you don't know this band, you just don't know them by name. You've heard their songs at the club, remixed or not, for the last two years, especially here in LA. I even remember the first time I heard "Walking On A Dream," I had to know who that was. The Australian duo has been riding in fantasy land ever since their 2008 album, Walking On A Dream, on the strength of the title track, "We Are The People" and "Standing on The Shore." The latter, which repeats "Don't want to talk. All I hear is noise," reflects exactly how I hope to be at their concert.
I'm pretty upset that I am not going to be at Henry Fonda to see any of these local shows. I'm saving my virgin eyes and ears (and my cash) for their Sunday night Outside Lands closing set.
