Tonight in L.A. (February 2, 2013)

Keep the first weekend of February moving in the right direction with some old school 45 anthems from Funky Sole at The Echo (free before 11) or the massive electronic sounds of Porter Robinson at Hollywood Palladium.  Speaking of the Palladium...don't sleep on those Justin Timberlake tickets going on sale for Grammy night.  His return will be an epic show I'm sure.

Beyond dance floor action - you can get some throwback soul from Earth Wind & Fire at Fantasy Springs Resort, some lessons in pimping from Too $hort at Canyons, laughs courtesy of Adam Carolla at The Roxy and rock-esque stylings from Gram Rabbit at LA Fort and Dengue Fever at Detroit Bar.

Mashup Maestros Make LA's Westside Their Playground

Tomorrow night mashup superheroes - The Hood Internet - bring their crunkity collaborative jams to the dance floors of The Central SAPC, just a night after wrecking Detroit Bar...

The Chicago based duo's been critically acclaimed for the treatment of pop, indie, hip-hop and electro music alike as they frequently release hypem.com chart topping blends that make their way to most college frat party playlists.  From taking Drake and layering him over Miike Snow to cutting up Wale over M83, this duo's recipe is usually the mash up version of Emeril Lagasse - BAM!  And they've smacked you with their signature sounding hot sauce.

Download some Hood Internet tracks from their website here and peep a few more below.  Get tickets to The Central SAPC here.   Tanya Morgan and Psalm One support.

Warning - show is likely to sell out, so cop them while you can!  Try entering our contest for a pair of tickets by tweeting out @supergoodmusic @thecentralsapc or emailing contest@supergoodmusic.com if you can't afford it or are feeling lucky....

Metronomy's October So Cal Run

English electro-pop act Metronomy headline the Troubadour on Saturday October 15th as part of a tour through the SoCal region. With their third album, The English Rivera, under their belt, and praise from "The Look" - the four piece hit up the left coast to hopefully perform some of the tunes from their album nominated for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize "Album Of The Year."

The music on English packs more energy than some of their previous releases. Songs like The Bay remind me of background tracks from Earthworm Jim and music that I put into a folder called "general synth dopeness."

And when I watch the video - with the aerial shots of yachts, licking popsicles and a whole lot of white shirts and pumps - I really do feel so good when I listen to it. The girl in the group just happens to be the drummer too - yet another reason to dig this quartet.

For this leg of their tour, Metronomy will be supported by fellow electro-pop artist NewVillager. The show October 15th is allegedly sold out. However tickets are still available for their show at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa and I think they may be playing the Mondrian Hotel as well.

Mashers of The Year - The Hood Internet

The Hood Internet is taking the remix and mash-up world by storm - and this is nothing new if you're from Chicago or have been up on your blogroll. After impressing the industry at SXSW just a few weeks ago - they've embarked on a brief tour alongside Black Moth Super Rainbow's Tobacco that recently took them through Los Angeles, to both Echo and Detroit Bar.

The rest of their tour takes them to the following cities before ending in at Empty Bottle their hometown of Chicago:

Saturday 3/27 - Bottom Of The Hill, San Francisco CA
Sunday 3/28 - WOW Hall, Eugene OR
Monday 3/29 - Holocene, Portland OR #
Tuesday 3/30 - Chop Suey, Seattle WA
Friday 4/2 - Triple Rock Social Club, Minneapolis MN ^
Saturday 4/3 - Empty Bottle, Chicago IL

My new favorite mash-up heroes just seem to get it right every time. From mixing Drake with Miike Snow to Dr. Dre with Class Actress, this duo knows how to take the good things from popular music and the good things from indie culture and bring it together to make something infectiously danceable, repeatable and awesome. I wish these guys would DJ every party I ever had.

You can check out a lot more about the group on their own site -http://www.thehoodinternet.com/ - as well as get free downloads to their zipped mixtapes and other songs.

Dubtroit One Year Anniversary Party w/ 12th Planet

12th Planet killed it tonight at Echoplex and it looks like he is going to resurface on Tuesday at Detroit Bar. I didn't include this in the blast because I don't think it was yet announced at that time, or at least Detroit Bar did not have the flyer up. BUT, now they do and it looks dubby and dope.

In addition to 12th Planet, Pawn & Emu, Dustmite, Steady & Kelly Dean and Tealong are all playing at the Dubtroit One Year Anniversary Party.

It is free with RSVP. Go to smogla.com to RSVP.
