Tonight in L.A. (February 3, 2013)

Its Super Bowl Sunday - a #SUPERGOOD staff favorite because the jump off is proper.  Spreads are top notch, beer is flowing, unsanctioned gambling is rampant and couchgate playlists become subject matter for battle.

Unfortunately Super Bowl Sunday is a cultural event - and in doing so - it often takes away from the volume of performers hitting the cities' streets, venues and nightclubs and 2013 is no different.   Of the 60 + venues we ordinarily report on, only about 20% of them play host to a public live music offering.  That list is below.  Our recommendation - getting down with Dim Mak fam and the cool kids Thee Mike B, Fashen and DJ Metric at Drai's Hollywood.

  • Matt & Alber, Lou Jane, Steffaloo @ The Hotel Café
  • Acapella!, Street Corner Renaissance, Veritas, Voxel Rox @ WitZend
  • The Toledo Show @ Harvelle’s
  • House of Blues Gospel Brunch @ House of Blues – Sunset Strip
  • The Reflections, Tashaki Miyaki, Joel Jerome (of Dios), DJ Ana Calderon @ The Satellite (FREE)
  • The Bush Tetras, Terry Malts, Swahili Blonde @ The Echo
  • Thee Mike B, Fashen, DJ Metric @ Drai’s Hollywood
  • The Leeches, The Mormons, White Knight @ Alex’s Bar
  • Cro-Mags, Strife @ Constellation Room
  • Ascent, Capali Long, Phil DeSlott @ TRiP
  • Froth, Cab 20, The Short Eyes, Santoros @ The Smell
  • Stanley Jordan Trio @ Catalina Bar & Grill

Tonight in L.A. (October 9, 2012)

There's a handful of music options this Tuesday - whether its Half Moon Run and Metric at The Greek Theatre or The Boners at Redwood Bar - something's gonna get you up.

Other musical events should elevate you too.  The fortunate ticket holders for Grimes at El Rey Theatre get to indulge in a sold out show and our fortunate contest winners will get the privilege of attending DIIV at The Echoplex, Michael Kiwanuka at John Anson Ford Amphitheatre or Yelawolf with Rittz at House of Blues - Sunset Strip.  All three of those shows will be satisfying depending on your sonic palate.  Personally - I like the grit of Yelawolf and Rittz.

Other notables include Metalachi at Los Globos, Bad Pus at The Mint and Jeff The Brotherhood at Troubadour.  Full list of concerts in L.A. tonight is below.

  • The Corin Tucker Band, Summer Twins, Branden Daniel &The Chics @ The Echo
  • Check Yo Ponytail 2 w/ DIIV, Violens, Cold Showers, Deathday @ The Echoplex
  • The Balconies , Heroes and Heroines, Future Ghost @ Bootleg Bar
  • Tav Falco and the Unapproachable Panther Burns, Reignwolf, Gabriel Hart and the Fourth Wall, DJ Chris Ziegler @ The Satellite
  • Art Bamford, Todd Hoover, Kyle Shevlin, Goat Boots, The Kayaks @ Silverlake Lounge
  • The Wallflowers, Everest @ Fonda Theatre
  • Metric, Half Moon Run @ Greek Theatre

Adventure Club Dubstep Hits Boulder for SOLD OUT Show (Win Free Tickets From US!)

If you haven't explored the sonic world of Adventure Club - get ready for a wild ride. They take indie songs I'm often just becoming familiar with, dose them with bass, add some extra juice and sexy drops and out emerges a remix that I'd much rather listen to than the original.

They've done it with Foxes "Youth," Flight Facilities' "Crave You," and even Metric's "Collect Call." You can download all of those for free off of their Soundcloud. You can also get a free pair of tickets to see them at their SOLD OUT show at Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO on Saturday April 7th by participating in our Adventure Club contest. All you have to do is take a trip over to twitter and mention @supergoodmusic @supergoodco and @foxtheatreco in the same tweet or comment on our facebook page about how much you want to see Adventure Club. Do either and you will be entered.

Now, Now from Minneapolis Performs Tonight at Sold Out Troubadour

A month after closing out 2010 with a performance at their hometown's Popsickle Festival and 6 weeks after releasing their new EP, Neighbors, Now, Now (formerly Now, Now Every Children) are gracing The Troubadour.

The group caught a bit of a fire at New Jersey's Bamboozle Festival and later dropped the Every Children from their name to be in tune with their musical maturation. From what other critics say (I didn't rock out to Cars, their debut EP very much) - they've improved their structure and are playing with more confidence.

Filter Magazine said "[l]eading ladies Cacie Dalager and Jess Abbott's vocals blend perfectly with the indie-rock, guitar-laced, and anthemic tunes that seem to blast out your speakers on Neighbors," while Spin compared the band to Metric and Be Your Own Pet.

Big Hassle's hosting two of their tracks for streaming - "Giants" and "Neighbors". Tickets for The Troubadour are sold out. They are opening for Hellogoodbye.
