Los Angeles Tonight (Monday, June 24th)

Monday in Los Angeles means It's A School Night at Bardot. Tonight Travis Garland, Treetop Flyers and Micah Green are showcasing their goods.

The Steelwells are playing at the Observatory in Orange County.

It's the last night of the June residencies, so if you haven't had a chance, catch King at The Bootleg Theatre, Hindu Pirates at the Echo and/or Queen Caveat at the Satellite.

Los Angeles Tonight (Monday, April 29th)

Booo hooo, the Lakers lost. Get over it by seeing some live music tonight.

For an energetic Monday, Pitchfork's favorite Canadians, Metz, bring their hard-hitting sound to the Troubadour with support from White Lung and Mrs Magician.

KCRW'S It's a School Night is bringing the beats proper this evening with Big Black Delta's record release party going down at Bardot. Shy Girls, Emma Ejwertz and The Last Internationale fill out the bill.

Tonight is Gavin Turek's last night of her April residency at The Bootleg Theatre. Helping Gavin close out the month are Zak Waters, Fellow Bohemian and a special guest is substituting in place of Boom D, who is stuck in NOLA.

Don't forget to head on out to the West side this coming weekend and join us at the Cinco de Mayo bash "El Dia De La Heady." Lagunitas and Sailor Jerry are providing libations, The Record Company, The Dustbowl Revival, Ivory Deville, The Dead Ships, The Diamond Light and Highway Poets are providing the tunes, and, most importantly, Jam in the Van is providing the headiness. Hope to see you all out there.

Tonight in L.A. (February 25, 2013)

Post Oscar hangovers give rise to the realization that it is actually a full work week this week.  And while that seems daunting, finding some quality act to see this Monday night in Los Angeles is not.  With some great residencies closing the books on their February run - it might be wise to catch those weekly parties before they change casts.

The Mowgli's enlisted The Diamond Light, Zak Waters, Lisa Donnelly and DJ Jason Kramer to end things at The Satellite on a high note.  A House for Lions did the same by recruiting Max and The Moon, The Peach Kings and The Cerny Brothers.   Dance party starter Mystery Skulls hauled in Ghost Beach, Gangplans and DJ Holloweyed to Bootleg Bar to end his run there.

Elsewhere Hunnypot Radio broadcasts out of The Central SAPC with a tasty set from rising indie electro pop rockers Mind The Gap, Del The Funky Homosapien drops some FREE raps on the Slidebar crowd, Jeff Garlin makes people laugh as he converses with Aziz Ansari at Largo and last but not least, Chief and Warships deliver a dosage of indie to It's A School Night at Bardot.

Tonight in L.A. (February 11, 2013)

As the industry recovers from its Grammy party hangover - a handful of emerging artists are slated to put their stamp on 2013 with some Monday night shows.  February residents turn in some solid line-ups with The Mowgli's recruiting Terraplane Sun, The Lucky Lonely and COYOL to join them at The Satellite and Mystery Skulls bringing James Supercave and AmpLive to Bootleg Bar.  Both are free.  Free access can also be had at Hunnypot Radio Live at The Central SAPC and It's A School Night where Jurassic 5's Chali 2na performs along with Starting Six, Caught a Ghost and Leagues.

In the out of pocket category - St. Lucia and JMSN play at Constellation Room and another great residency a- A House for Lions at Echoplex - gets visited by Blonde Summer, The New Limb and Soft Swells.  Not too shabby..

Tonight in L.A. (December 3, 2012)

Get your first Monday of December popping properly with the launch of all new residencies - from The Dead Ships sat The Echo to Jhameel at Bootleg, its a new serving of FREE.  Despite the fresh residencies - It's A School Night again hosts the best free night of music with rising neo hip-hop wunderkind Robert Raimon Roy, along with Alezx Johnson, TeamMate and more.  I also like Hunnypot Radio hosting Chicago MC E-Train and his "Glow So Hard' vibes at The Central SAPC, plus Toy Bombs, Seven Saturdays and a few music supervisor DJ sets.

Other notable shows include KIIS FM's Jingle Ball with the Biebs, Flo Rida, FUN. and more chart toppers like Psy, Islands at Virgil and Vinyl Williams at Pehrspace.

Monday, November 26, 2012

Tonight in L.A. (November 26, 2012)

Its back to work and that end of the year grind for most of us today - including musicians.  This final Monday brings the end of a handful of residencies, most notably The Record Company at The Satellite who will be joined by Das Tapes, The Peach Kings, Strange Vine and KCRW's Jason Kramer.  Its pretty much a power line up of local indie - so make sure to check it out.

If you are disinclined to the eastside - Hollywood offers Its A School Night at Bardot with Rah Rah and the Sunset Strip plays host to The Neighbourhood at The Viper Room and Lindsey Stirling at The Roxy.  I recommend the former over the latter - but that's just my preference.

No list would be complete without mentioning No Doubt's show at Gibson Amphitheatre.  The second of a handful that the revived act brings to the venue.  And honorable mention goes to Organ Freeman at The Mint whose name is just that cool...

A full list of shows is below.

  • No Doubt @ Gibson Amphitheatre
  • In The Valley Below, Cotillon, Omniflux, Sabrosa Purr @ Bootleg Bar (FREE)
  • The Record Company, Das Tapes, The Peach Kings, Strange Vine, Jason Kramer (KCRW) @ The Satellite (FREE)

  • Cosmonauts, The Garden, Feeding Pepole, The Abigails @ Echoplex (FREE)
  • Brooke Telarico, Ariana Hall, Kenneth Aaron Harris, Joel Eckels, Adam Levy @ Room 5 Lounge
  • Jordan Booth, Jason Josepeh & The Spectacular, Drew @ The Hotel Café (Free after 9:45)
  • Little Miss Nasty @ Key Club
  • The Neighbourhood, Bad Suns, Daydreamer @ The Viper Room
  • Lindsey Stirling, The Vibrant Sound @ The Roxy
