As the industry recovers from its Grammy party hangover - a handful of emerging artists are slated to put their stamp on 2013 with some Monday night shows.  February residents turn in some solid line-ups with The Mowgli's recruiting Terraplane Sun, The Lucky Lonely and COYOL to join them at The Satellite and Mystery Skulls bringing James Supercave and AmpLive to Bootleg Bar.  Both are free.  Free access can also be had at Hunnypot Radio Live at The Central SAPC and It's A School Night where Jurassic 5's Chali 2na performs along with Starting Six, Caught a Ghost and Leagues.

In the out of pocket category - St. Lucia and JMSN play at Constellation Room and another great residency a- A House for Lions at Echoplex - gets visited by Blonde Summer, The New Limb and Soft Swells.  Not too shabby..

Tonight in L.A. (December 21, 2012)

Close the books, clear the e-mail, say your holiday goodbyes, make that final phone call...and then run through this list of concerts to pick your last live entertainment of the year.

Funk heads get a treat from The Meters' Leo Nocentelli at The Mint, or can go for something a bit more raw at The Central SAPC with Chali 2na and The House of Vibe All-Stars.

Fans of the guitar can enjoy Jon Brion's final Largo show of the year, another installment of the legendary Camp Freddy at The Roxy or a sold out Black Rebel Motorcycle Club throwdown at Troubadour.

If you want some filthy filthy beats - look no further than Dillon Francis at El Rey Theatre with Kill Paris and Paul Devro.  But, if you can't get into that - AraabMUZIK with Baauer, The Killabits and Bird Peterson at Avalon is definitely not a bad substitute.

The Central SAPC: One of L.A.'s Most Intimate Venues

SUPERGOODMUSIC wants to give praise where praise is do. Santa Monica based music enclave Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club, a more recent addition to Los Angeles’ prominent group of venues, has all the right fixings to make it an iconic spot in this music-infested town.

Fitting its title perfectly, a team of music-club veterans from Los Angeles, San Francisco and New Orleans designed the Central SAPC so that music-lovers could relax and rock-out all in one place; a home away from home, for all you Angelenos. With two rooms that ooze great vibes, you can chat by the rustic fireplace in the main “watering hole” or watch your favorite, or soon to be favorite, band jam in a separate room conveniently equipped with a second bar. We've elected to the westside music stomping grounds as the site of our weekly FREE indie rock residency - which goes down every Tuesday and this month is truly #dopesauce because Kiev is playing.

The venue was formerly 14 Below before a massive renovation and face lift changed it into the establishment it is today. To properly invite you to this cozy venue that’s bubbling with fresh talent, SUPERGOODMUSIC is giving away tickets to a couple Central shows this month:

11/12: Purple Melon with Outernational

11/19: Jam in the Van presents: Chali 2NA and The House of Vibes with MTHDS and Special Guests

To enter our giveaway - either send an e-mail to contest@supergoodmusic.com or tweet out @supergoodmusic and @thecentralsapc along with the headlining artist (either @purplemelon or @chali2na). If you're feeling the twitter love - mention @jaminthevan and @mthds too.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hot Bed of Hip-Hop: The Sunset Strip & L.A. at Large

Lyrics Born

For the last few weeks, greater Los Angeles has been a breeding ground for great hip-hop shows both big and small. Not only did LA show love for Lyrics Born (pictured above), Charli 2na (pictured below) and Rakaa (not pictured) at The Roxy on Thursday night - but within the last week LA hosted Atmosphere, Nas, Cypress HIll, Living Legends, ?uestlove, YG, 50 Cent, Odd Future, Wiz Khalifa, Yela Wolf, and P. Diddy.

Charli 2na

L.A.'s hip-hop calendar has just been on fire - and with Cut Chemist performing multiple times this weekend, DJ Shadow on Halloween, along with three Kosha Dillz performances, Snoop Dogg at the Gibson Amphitheatre and Freddie Gibbs at Key Club, that heat is not going away any time soon.

This picture gallery comes courtesy of Charli 2na and Lyrics Born's captivating performance at The Roxy on Thursday night. With doors opening at 10:30 - it was truly for the heads and late nighters. Rakaa from Dilated Peoples opened for the cast of veterans - dropping personal cuts as well as essential Dilated joints.

Rakaa was followed by Jurassic 5 bass vocalist, Charli 2na, and his guest MC who I believe was his cousin. 2na performed J5 classics like "Quality Control" - as well as a handful of solo material. 2na's rich vocals and animated stage presence energized the two hundred plus person crowd.

After a classic, fifteen minutes too long intermission - headliner Lyrics Born finally took the stage somewhere after midnight. Complete with an entourage band, including a stylish keyboardist and female vocalist Joyo Velarde, Lyrics ripped off more than 20 of his hits and reminded those with heavy eyes why they'd endured until the end.

Lyrics' complex rap patterns and verbal linguistics were appreciated by all of those who stayed late enough to see him. Spitting high pitched hot fire, Lyrics connected with the thinning crowd on classics from Later That Day and earned some new fans with recently penned crowd pleasers from the 2010 album As U Were.
