Los Angeles Tonight (Monday, June 24th)

Monday in Los Angeles means It's A School Night at Bardot. Tonight Travis Garland, Treetop Flyers and Micah Green are showcasing their goods.

The Steelwells are playing at the Observatory in Orange County.

It's the last night of the June residencies, so if you haven't had a chance, catch King at The Bootleg Theatre, Hindu Pirates at the Echo and/or Queen Caveat at the Satellite.

Los Angeles Tonight (Monday, April 29th)

Booo hooo, the Lakers lost. Get over it by seeing some live music tonight.

For an energetic Monday, Pitchfork's favorite Canadians, Metz, bring their hard-hitting sound to the Troubadour with support from White Lung and Mrs Magician.

KCRW'S It's a School Night is bringing the beats proper this evening with Big Black Delta's record release party going down at Bardot. Shy Girls, Emma Ejwertz and The Last Internationale fill out the bill.

Tonight is Gavin Turek's last night of her April residency at The Bootleg Theatre. Helping Gavin close out the month are Zak Waters, Fellow Bohemian and a special guest is substituting in place of Boom D, who is stuck in NOLA.

Don't forget to head on out to the West side this coming weekend and join us at the Cinco de Mayo bash "El Dia De La Heady." Lagunitas and Sailor Jerry are providing libations, The Record Company, The Dustbowl Revival, Ivory Deville, The Dead Ships, The Diamond Light and Highway Poets are providing the tunes, and, most importantly, Jam in the Van is providing the headiness. Hope to see you all out there.

Tonight in L.A. (November 12, 2012)

Start your Monday off right with some good music - whether that's the solid sounds of It's A School Night as they bring in some Los Angeles based acts to celebrate some EP releases (DWNTWN, The Rebel Light) or its the second installment of some eastside residency.

In terms of residencies - the SUPERGOOD selection goes to The Record Company at The Satellite.  This week they are being presented by Jam In The Van, who will be parked outside the venue, and will also be joined by the bluesy roots vibes of The Dustbowl Revival, The Nervous Wreckords and KCRW personalities Jason Kramer and CJ Valida.  Other resident acts include In The Valley Below at Bootleg and Dream Panther at The Echoplex.

If you're hitting up Mumford and Sons and Dawes at Hollywood Bowl - your after party stop should probably be Bardot.   AM from the duo of Shawn Lee & AM spins under his lesser known moniker George Ben Sun while Sky Ferreira and the aforementioned The Rebel Light and DWNTWN drop some sets on the Hollywood crowd.  Per usual - Chris Douridas will also be providing some of the sonic landscape.

LP and The Diamond Light should deliver at a sold out Troubadour show.  Violinist Emily Wells will impress an iheartcomix crowd at The Echoplex with additional sonic assistance from Dark Dark Dark and M.E.  Don't miss your chance to catch her skills with a bow and strings if you have not yet seen her.

Icky Blossoms Return to Los Angeles

The clever crew behind Icky Blossoms return to Los Angeles in November for another night of sweaty indie rock.  The trio's quasi-tribal melodic indie dance pop is perfect for the LA set - and a few Angelenos will get to enjoy them get down at Troubadour on November 9th.  With Icky Blossoms - you don't just get quality new tunes, you get a sonic experience with long time friends (the group of friends formed in 2011 in Omaha, Nebraska).   Get your tickets to their Troubadour show here.

Some locals were treated to Derek Pressnall (Tilly and the Wall), Nik Fackler and Sarah Bohling's talents on September 24th at Its A School Night or you may have unsuspectingly indulged in their throwback risque video and sounds of "Cycle."

Their self titled release is currently out on Saddle Creek with a handful of quality compositions - like the opening track "Heat Lightning"and the aforementioned 'Cycle."  "Perfect Vision" is the albums closing track - see the video for it below.

Tonight in L.A. (October 22, 2012)

Its a sexy autumn night in Los Angeles as the air is getting chilly and Chad Valley's vocals get shrilly at Its A School Night at Bardot.  Chad brings his multiple talents as support for Nashville songwriter Erin McCarley, jazzed out indie act Monte Mar and Zac Waters also play.

Flume begins a multiple day run through the LA streets with a DJ set on the westside at Hunnypot Radio’s broadcast from The Central SAPC.  If you haven’t heard his beats – correct that.  Another producer I like, DJ Carnage, drops some freshness at The Roxy along with G. Easy and Kyle a.k.a. K.I.D.

Guitar licks of Kaki King can be heard at El Rey Theatre – but if you’re looking to rock on a budget, Superhumanoids, Vum and Cayucas at The Echo would be my suggestion.   Laughter?  Russell Brand will put you in check at Largo.

For other shows and options - see below.

  • New West Guitar Trio @ bluewhale
