Jam fans and piano aficionados would be doing themselves a service by going to The Mint tonight. Ivory and ebony virtuoso Marco Benevento takes to the stage at the Pico funk hub to lay down some thick jazz, granola tunes and the occasional party starter like "Limbs of a Pine." You may remember Marco from the Benevento/Russo Duo - but tonight's outfit should be a bit more eclectic, plus he is joined by Mike Dillon of Garage A Trois, Polyphonic Spree, Les Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade and more.
Its a magnificent night of music to close out the first month of the year as Dave Grohl celebrates his documentary with a Sound City Players performance at Hollywood Palladium, a free KRS-ONE show at Slidebar and the improvisation skills of Marco Benevento and Mike Dillon at The Mint.
If those legends weren't enough - there is a healthy dosage of beatsmiths and producers descending on LA venues tonight too. Free The Robots cuts up at Constellation Room while a pseudo Low End Theory crew celebrates the life of Austin Peralta at Del Monte Speakeasy when Daedelus, Teebs and Gaslamp Killer all lay down dope sets for the low cost of $5 entry (proceeds go to charity).

Make your
midweek more exciting with some great residencies tonight - Matt Chamberlain at The Mint
or Tic Tic Boom! at Lot 1 Cafe. The former is joined by keys/B3
extraordinaire Marco Benevento and the latter are joined by We Are/She Is and
Odd Modern to round out an eclectic, LGBT friendly indie rock bill.
For some
throwback sounds - The Roxy rolls out the Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde party
that sees the return of the original Pharcyde crew. Don't let that show
pass you by, although I wouldn't blame you for electing Rock for the Rack with
Leo Nocentelli of the Funky Meters instead. Both should deliver nostalgia
inducing performances.
Los
Angeleno native and soon to be Bonnaroo performer Robert Francis holds down the
fort that is Troubadour. In other names that should be on your radar -
Love In The Circus performs at Zanzibar, Sonnymoon, Kone and CBG beat down The
Airliner for Low End Theory and Dandelo delivers freenoise on The Satellite crowd.
Other notables include a free show at Slidebar with Seedless and Zen
Robbi, Aceyalone at a re-opened Little Temple, Devandra Banhart at The
Observatory and House of Vibe All-Stars at Harvelles.
