Tonight in L.A. (January 18, 2013)

No shortage of musical options on this fresh Friday...but there is a shortage of music videos because SUPERGOOD is flying the friendly skies and videos don't load that quickly when your 30,000 feet in the air.

Getting down in LA tonight are a host of talented artists - from the rhythmic beauty of Femi Kuti & The Positive Force to the wild cover energy of Hyper Crush, many of L.A.'s stages will be ignited with quality music.

Of Mice & Men rock at House of Blues - Sunset STrip, Andrew Bird evokes emotions at Largo as does Kelley James at Key Club.  For a fun sing along - consider the cover sounds of Black Crystal Wolf Kids at El Cid where they are joined by Ninja Betty & The Nunchix.  If you want to dance dance dance - check Congorock at Avalon or Gladkill and Kastle at King King Club.   Indie kids can enjoy The Dead Ships at The Satellite.

Last but certainly not least - ultimate funksters, fans of Parliament, and Talking Heads heads should swing to The Mint to catch Bernie Worrell Orchestra and see the legend Worrell in the flesh!

Tonight in L.A. (November 29, 2012)

If you'd like to enjoy a concert tonight to celebrate longtime SUPERGOODMUSIC Concert Blast subscriber Chris "Wicksauce" Wick's 30th Birthday  - I might suggest Mark De Clive Lowe's Church Sessions at Del Monte Speakeasy featuring Nia Andrews, amongst others.  Its close to the beach and they make some mean drinks downstairs at Townhouse.  Another alternative might be to go admit you're not worthy in the presence of Alice Cooper at Orpheum Theatre.

Get close to everyone at Fonda Theatre when Alex Clare of recent Microsoft/Bing commercial fame rocks the house with support from Moshav.

For some local flavor - check out El Cid with Ninja Betty & The Nunchix, Thunderdikk and Fartbarf or the DJ action of Guns in The Sun crew and Bixel Boys at the Dance Right party at La Cita.  Full list of shows below...recommendations in bold.

Indie Music on A Stoner Holiday

If you're hip to cannabis culture, you'd know today is a holiday for the avid weed smoker. You might also know that Slightly Stoopid is playing at Greek Theatre tonight, where they are joined by Bad Brains, Barrington Levy and special guests Karl Denson, Del Tha Funky Homosapien and Don Carlos. This line-up is like a mini-festival and I'm sure it will be some stanky funky 'ish (both audibly and odorously).

If you can't foot the bill for that, or you just want to kick it low key with the Stoopid boys post show - El Cid is hosting the after party, where they will be showing Reefer Madness and have performances from Stonefeather and The Originalites amongst others.

There are plenty of musicians elsewhere around town, including ones that embrace the bottle over the cheeba. You could share a drink with some rising locals at any eastside indie enclave - and I plan on doing just that at Silverlake Lounge with Risers at 9:15, as well as with Tic Tic Boom! at Bootleg at 11:30. I like both acts songwriting a lot - Tic Tic Boom!'s catchy "Just Friends" on Locals Only has caught my ear (as well as their latest "Bees") and Risers sort of wowed me at The Satellite last week with their performance of Devil's Game. Check that out here -

Risers are joined by Aerial Stereo (8:30), Handshakes (10), Mile Greene (10:45) and Y Luv (11:30); Tic Tic Boom! are joined by Old Scholar (10:30) and Tyler Steele & The Helping Thieves (9:30) as well as I Promote Good Bands and Zoomania Music crews.

Hope to see you out tonight. New Los Angeles Concert Blast published tomorrow!

The Electro Majic Invasion

So, Keith Masters and Futurecop! descended upon Los Angeles delivering their futuristic, dream-wave, synth based electro majic music to three hungry crowds before going back into orbit and heading to San Francisco.

I had the pleasure of kicking it with the rising MC and production team all weekend and took in all three of their shows (El Cid was probably my favorite). Futurecop!'s album release is slated for the summer and will feature a smattering of songs that include Keith Masters, but look for a full on Masters and Futurecop! ELECTRO MAJIC release sometime not too far after that. Their genre melting music can already be heard on the internet and seen on our youtube channel with songs like "88 Girls" and "Teenage Love."

Below is a sampling of pictures from La Cita and El Cid (we ran out of batteries at 14 Below).
