Tonight in L.A. (December 8, 2012)

Its Saturday - which means its a good excuse to party - and there are plenty of places to dance....so the following are instructions to turn it up.

1.  Play your latest mix or track from insert artist's name here.  I recommend Disco Nap by A-Trak on repeat.  That, and Higher Ground by TNGHT.  At least if you want to get amped up.

2.  Pour a shot of insert your favorite alcohol here.

3.  Repeat steps one and two two more times in fifteen minutes.

4.  Call a cab and go to one of the following concerts:

  • Zoos Zoos launch at The Central SAPC with Gaslamp Killer, Dam Funk, MORRI$ and Sun Araw
  • Borgore, Schoolboy, Kennedy Jones at Fonda Theatre
  • King King Club for another The Do Lab event with Blockhead, Jeremy Sole, Pumpkin and a Special Guest
  • Funkagenda at Avalon
  • YACHT @ The Echoplex

So lets review - that's #music #turnupjuice #repeat #cabtoconcert.

If you can't handle that much turn up juice - there are certainly other options.  BANDxCITY celebrates a year in business at Bootleg Theater with Ross Sea Party, Zak Waters, Y Luv and Jane Bang.  #bangbang

Of course no list of concert recommendations would be complete without mentioning KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas - which celebrates its first night with visits from Youngblood Hawke, Walk The Moon, AWOLNATION, Rise Against, Two Door Cinema Club, Linkin Park, Bush, Slightly Stoopid, Garbage, The Gaslight Anthem, The Lumineers at Gibson Amphitheatre.  Its pretty sold out I think - so if you need a dosage of rock from elsewhere, consider Bob Weir and Jackie Greene at The Wiltern.

Step Into The Black Music Series

Thursday June 28th is kind of a wild night in LA for free music and complimentary booze - on top of the VICE/AIR event with Sebastien Tellier (we posted on it yesterday), the STEP INTO THE BLACK MUSIC SERIES, curated by the Fader team and sponsored by Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum, stops at new West Hollywood enclave Bootsy Bellows on their ten week, ten city tour.  The night will feature a special performance from The Afghan Whigs and a DJ set from Yung Skeeter - as well as a visit from the Inn N Out Truck!

In addition to the free music and booze, attendees may also be interested in acquiring a copy of the Step Into The Black limited edition vinyl.  Fear not - because we are giving a copy away - just email contest@supergoodmusic.com to get in on that action.  If vinyl isn't your thing (or you can't make it), anyone can download exclusive MP3s from the performances at Captain Morgan's Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/CaptainMorganBlack

Check out Dam-Funk's performance at a previous Step Into The Black event below:

Red Bull Music Academy Presents: Culture Clash w/ SMOG, Dim Mak, Stones Throw & Dub Club

Tonight, LA plays host to the U.S. Debut of Red Bull Music Academy's Culture Clash event. Taking place at Exchange - 4 of the hottest music troupes representing Los Angeles, Dim Mak, Stones Throw, SMOG and Dub Club hit stages for a certainly epic night.

The atmosphere will be competitive as the scene-sters compete over the course of four rounds, (although the competition will likely be friendlier than tonight's Cavs vs. Heat post "Decision" match up). For each round, the crowd will register their vote(s) on a handful of criteria - including measured cheers and applause. After warming up their respective stages with 15 minute set, the first round will judge the musicians ability to "select" the right tunes. The second round focuses on the entertainment factor and is expected to feature special guests. The third round stretches the musicians knowledge of other genres - having them stretch from their traditional outfits. The fourth (and final) round, also known as the "banger round," requires the music teams to bring their most raucous sets and baddest tunes to win over the crowd.

The night will be hosted by MC Commander - who will lead Dim Mak (electro), Dub Club (roots reggae), Smog (dubstep) and Stones Throw (funk/soul/hip-hop) through their battles over their respective soundsystems. For those unfamiliar with traditional sound clashes, each collective supplies their own sound system for the event.

With staple LA resident DJ artists like Them Jeans (Dim Mak Tuesdays), Thee Mike B (Cannonball Sundays at Drais), DJ Fashen (Cannonball Sundays at Drais), Tom Chasteen (Dub Club), Roy Corduroy (Dub Club), Dam Funk (Funkmosphere) - you know the music will be the sort of stuff that keeps LA crowds moving. Throw in some more name brand artists like 12th Planet (Smog), Peanut Butter Wolf (Stones Throw), Craze (Smog), Mayer Hawthorne (Stones Throw) and whomever Dim Mak's special guest is (or guests are) and you've got one hell of a show.

Don't miss it. Buy tickets here. (UPDATE: 10:40 am - TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT)

And, FYI, cop your tickets now because I heard it might sell out! If for some reason you can't make it, but you want to check out some DJ mashed music - DJ Quickie Mart plays his last show at Air Conditioned Lounge on Lincoln Blvd. in Venice.
