Los Angeles Tonight (April 14, 2013)

It's Sunday, a day of rest, or a day you can use to go hear some tunes... If you're doing the latter then let us recommend either Mudhoney at the Echo (because Mudhoney is awesome), or Penguin Prison at Drai's in Hollywood... Neither is a bad decision.

Tonight in L.A. (November 16, 2012)

Start your weekend off properly with some good live music - whether that's closing out the Greek Theatre season with Steve Winwood and The Wood Brothers (which includes members of esteemed Medeski, Martin and Wood) or going "Hollywood" in Hollywood with Penguin Prison and The Twelves at the Private Label party at Lure - there is something for everyone.

Those that planned in advance may have tickets to sold out Tame Impala and The Amazing show at El Rey Theatre or the sold out Walk The Moon and Family of the Year show at Fonda Theatre.  For non sold out rock consider the clever and entertaining Yacht Rock Revue at The Satellite or the grit of John Wayne Bro at Alex's Bar.  Gentler ears might enjoy Joshua Radin, A Fine Frenzy and Lucy Schwartz at The Wiltern - tickets are still available.

Private Label Turns It Up

Tonight there is another sexy installment of one of L.A.'s hottest new Friday night parties - Private Label at Lure presented by React, DubFrequency and MFG.   While still in its infancy - the event has already been graced by the likes of M83, RAC and Classixx just to name a few - and tonight The Twelves and Penguin Prison step in to deliver what will undoubtedly be some solid sets for the Hollywood crowd.  The promoters know how to put on a party and recruit a crowd - so definitely check it out if you haven't yet.

The turn up gets real around 11 pm and its packed by midnight with solid eye candy and a pulsing dance floor.  If you want elite status - reach out for VIP reservations at vip@lurehollywood.com or contact 323-463-0009 - otherwise get your tickets here.  It goes from 10 - 2.

Penguin Prison Hit LA for 2 Days/Don't F With My Money

We had Penguin Prison perform at our SUPERGOODMUSIC Showcase series in Austin, TX during SXSW 2011 - which included a performance of "Golden Train" at Rusty Spurs (see video below). The act has steadily been infiltrating other blogger's respective radars and recently picked up Windish to their booking - so you should certainly expect to see their name popping up on more festivals and more national tours in 2012.

They also just dropped this video for "Don't F With My Money" that has Occupy Wall Street themes in it and is definitely stirring up a little controversy.

To close out their 2011, they are making a trip back to L.A. to play Dim Mak Tuesdays tonight at Dim Mak Studios and then tomorrow they head west to The Central SAPC to perform Wednesday night. Their high energy, infectious-indie-electro jams translate really well to concert and we strongly recommend you check them out if you can.
