AraabMUZIK's The Remixes Vol. 1 Streaming Now on Pitchfork

araan in brazilll

Its Tuesday, but it already feels like the week is halfway over given that most of America is checking out of work Wednesday for an extended weekend.  Before you head out for the fireworks, BBQs and lounging by a pool or beach to cure the ails of these heat waves - check out the stream of AraabMUZIK's The Remixes Vol. 1 on Pitchfork.

As you might expect - the MPC master freaks and reworks popular tracks and dance floor anthems, infusing them with his quintessential hip-hop swagger.  AraabMUZIK's release drops on Ultra Music on July 9th - but stream this at your celebration(s) of freedom if you want to see a little extra free expression on your patio dance floor.

Choo Jackson Joins the "Convo"

Thanks Mac Miller for the referral to Choo Jackson whose music is creeping on the come up, and so is his star status, thanks to his signing with Most Dope, release of Beer Flavored Pizza and drop of this video "Convo."  The Floridian turned PA vet reps for the region, telling an honest story with some clear influences from Cleveland (Kid Cudi, Cleveland Indians hat) and the mundane midwestern grind.  The video is set over the backdrop of a traditional midwestern house party complete with a beer pong game, Solo cups, Natty Ice and people smoking out in the cold.

"It Was All A Dream" - Kosha Dillz

Drawing from the legacy of MLK and sampling from the Notorious B.I.G. - bi-coastal rapper Kosha Dillz verbally paints a canvas of an alternate reality in "It Was All A Dream."  The songs speaks truth ("Mom says some things never change, when I grow up somethings might not be the same...") - but one thing is for certain, a song with a Biggie sample is usually worth listening to.

Step Into The Black Music Series

Thursday June 28th is kind of a wild night in LA for free music and complimentary booze - on top of the VICE/AIR event with Sebastien Tellier (we posted on it yesterday), the STEP INTO THE BLACK MUSIC SERIES, curated by the Fader team and sponsored by Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum, stops at new West Hollywood enclave Bootsy Bellows on their ten week, ten city tour.  The night will feature a special performance from The Afghan Whigs and a DJ set from Yung Skeeter - as well as a visit from the Inn N Out Truck!

In addition to the free music and booze, attendees may also be interested in acquiring a copy of the Step Into The Black limited edition vinyl.  Fear not - because we are giving a copy away - just email contest@supergoodmusic.com to get in on that action.  If vinyl isn't your thing (or you can't make it), anyone can download exclusive MP3s from the performances at Captain Morgan's Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/CaptainMorganBlack

Check out Dam-Funk's performance at a previous Step Into The Black event below:

Kosha Dillz dropped a cool Yom Hashoah freestyle on his youtube page earlier today. It pays homage to those that fell in the Holocaust, including non-jews, and is pretty street and wicked. Check out the link below:

Odd Modern at Loft Party Tonight

One of my favorite sort of under the radar bands, LA indie-synth duo Odd Modern, are performing tonight downtown at a loft show at 761 Central, Los Angeles, CA 90021. I've been on these cool kids bandwagon since I heard "Tipsy Dancer." I mean, how can you not like a song where the hook goes "If it wasn't for alcohol, I wouldn't dance at all..."

Vanina (vocals, synths) and Girardeau (drums, vocals), the faces of this modern duo, are two hipper than hip kids. So hip, they even live east of the hipsters in Sierra Madre. So hip they convinced Steve O to skateboard in their latest music video for the "hit song" "Contrary to Popular Belief," the title track to their latest album. And definitely hip enough to give all of their music away for free at www.oddmodern.com.

Check out these eastsiders downtown at A Loft Space. If you can't catch that, they play American Legion in October. Hopefully some smart talent buyer at one of the small east side venues (ahem, Echo, Spaceland, Silverlake Lounge) catches on and invites this duo in for a show.
