"Hangin Out" World Premier

The hardest grinding MC in Koreatown (and in hip-hop generally) Kosha Dillz has finally dropped his catchy anthem to chilling L.A. style.  "Hangin' Out" has arrived just in time to be the SXSW jam and staple for any festival mixtape.   Complete with references to culinary establishments like Mel's Diner, Froyo and Ralphs, and featuring a cast of cameos that includes Yo Gabba Gabba dancers, Lakers' girls, the Boom n Crates duo and Culver City veteran rapper Verbs, the video is itself a homage to Los Angeles.

You can download the song from Soundcloud here:

"Hangin Out" is the lead single from Kosha's forthcoming record tentatively titled either "The Shtick" or "Kosha Dillz is Everywhere."  The release, produced by Grammy nominee Belief, features guest appearances from Gangsta Boo, Murs, Wax, Big Pooh and more.   Go chime in on his facebook page to encourage him to go with one title over the other.

"Hangin Out" was shot by Ricky Shabazz and the Boom Bap Boys and co-directed by Kosha Dillz and Ricky Shabazz.

Tonight in L.A. (November 23, 2012)

After you take down some leftovers, get some Black Friday shopping in and decompress - you might be wise to consider checking out some live music.  It will help you work off those T-day calories and will take your mind off any family drama that may have ensued.

If you're in LA there is no shortage of musical distractions - from the massive dubstep throwdown that is SMOG's 6 Year Anniversary party at The Roxy to the fun of Yo Gabba Gabba Live! at Nokia Theatre - you should be audibly pleased.   The latter has two performances - one at 2 and one at 5:30 and is actually fun for all, kids and adults included.  The former might be a bit too filthy for the pre-teen crowd.

To dance off that turkey and gravy - Afrojack brings his poptacular production and dance floor anthems to Hollywood Palladium with support from Shermanology, Quintino and R3hab.  For a more indie dance vibe - consider checking out the final 2012 installment of Private Label at Lure with Holy Ghost! and Them Jeans.  Get there early for the Left Over, Do Over's post Thanksgiving celebration, and just stay for the React, DubFrequency and MFG Productions event that has become a Friday night staple for the cool crowd.

Westsiders don't have to travel far to dance - just head to The Central SAPC and catch the Silent Frisco crew mash up Boys Noize with Wu Tang Clan all night long.  It certainly is something you might want to f' with.   If you're really feeling the hip-hop vibes though, then Action Bronson and Cypress Hill at House of Blues or Dom Kennedy at Club Nokia are probably better choices.

Rock The Bells 2012

Saturday marks the launch of the 9th annual Rock The Bells Festival - as it returns to San Bernardino's NOS Events Center for the first of three weekends around the country.  The hip-hop mega fest is slated to deliver a hefty dosage of current heavyweights, veterans and artists who are clearly on their grind.

From the opening words of Dom Kennedy on Saturday to the final verse from Nas on Sunday - Los Angelenos and hip-hop heads from far and wide can rejoice in a celebration of the culture and some undoubtable surprises.  Some of those we can spoil for you - like the fact that Biz  Markie will join DJ Lance Rock (of Yo Gabba Gabba), Saafir and Ras Kaas reunite wth Xzibit for a special Golden State Warriors performance and Psycho Realm opens up Paid Dues Stage!  Staring into my crystal ball of festival forecasting - I also predict a few guest appearances from Travis Barker (Yelawolf), Kosha Dillz (some stage somewhere with RZA) and Chip Tha Ripper (Kid Cudi) are bound to happen....

The full official line-up includes all of the following: Kid Cudi, J Cole, DMX + Eve, Method Man + Redman, KRS - One, Nas, Wiz Khalifa, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Ice Cube, Xzibit, Golden State Warriors, Kid Ink, E-40 (& Too Short, Deltron 3030, Chief Keef, Machine Gun Kelly, Atmosphere, Killer Mike, El-P, Immortal Technique, Casey Veggies, Dipset, Kendrick Lamar (w/ Black Hippy), Common, 2 Chainz, Tyga, Yelawolf, Future, Dom Kennedy, Jadakiss, Wu Blok, Naughty By Nature, Curren$y, Prodigy, Zion I, Grouch, Eligh, Sean Price, Watsky, Black Knights, Salt-N-Pepa, DJ Quik, Big Daddy Kane, Mix Master Mike, DJ Lance Rock & Friends , I Self Devine, Slim Da Mobster, and Psycho Realm.

You can cop your tickets at www.rockthebells.com and check out a word about the festival from one of its creators - Chang Weisberg.

Kids Love "Sweatpants"

It wasn't until I was in third grade that I departed from a daily routine of wearing sweatpants. Kosha Dillz latest music video, the second from his EP Gina & The Garage Sale, has me waxing nostalgic for the days when pants with buttons weren't even part of my wardrobe yet. The Jersey based MC most likely will be getting kids amped to rock sweatpants as a fashion statement today as he performs with Yo Gabba Gabba in New Brunswick, NJ at two shows this afternoon/evening.

What makes that so cool is, not only did he just drop the premier of his music video for "Sweatpants" on Consequence of Sound last night (see below), but rappers also are not the norm for the touring Yo Gabba Gabba show. With acts like Pretty Lights, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and Leslie Hall normally joining the tour - it is refreshing to see an MC that is always on his grind get his due. Sharing a stage with Biz Markie, Brobee, Muno, Plex and DJ Lance will most likely be not only cool for him - but a career accomplishment.

In support of one of the hardest working MCs I know (and because it is my nephew's favorite song) - I give you "Sweatpants" music video and a link to purchase the song via i-tunes as well as the free download of the Yo Gabba Gabba remix.
