"Hangin Out" World Premier

The hardest grinding MC in Koreatown (and in hip-hop generally) Kosha Dillz has finally dropped his catchy anthem to chilling L.A. style.  "Hangin' Out" has arrived just in time to be the SXSW jam and staple for any festival mixtape.   Complete with references to culinary establishments like Mel's Diner, Froyo and Ralphs, and featuring a cast of cameos that includes Yo Gabba Gabba dancers, Lakers' girls, the Boom n Crates duo and Culver City veteran rapper Verbs, the video is itself a homage to Los Angeles.

You can download the song from Soundcloud here:

"Hangin Out" is the lead single from Kosha's forthcoming record tentatively titled either "The Shtick" or "Kosha Dillz is Everywhere."  The release, produced by Grammy nominee Belief, features guest appearances from Gangsta Boo, Murs, Wax, Big Pooh and more.   Go chime in on his facebook page to encourage him to go with one title over the other.

"Hangin Out" was shot by Ricky Shabazz and the Boom Bap Boys and co-directed by Kosha Dillz and Ricky Shabazz.

Fresh Tuesday Release: The Hawthorne Burger at Umami Burger

Go musically ham-burg this Tuesday like its never been done before.  How you might ask?  By stopping into Umami Burger for the debut premier of Mayer Hawthorne's "The Hawthorne" Burger.   Designed by the Ann Arbor crooner himself - the burger features cognac fondue sauce and hatch chiles.  The repeat diner birthed the idea after a series of twitter conversations with the restaurant and noted that its "an honor to be the first recording artist with my own Umami Burger."

The exclusive new creation drops like most musical collaborations - on a Tuesday - and this release is complete with a DJ set by Hawthorne himself.    Restaurant opens to the public at 8 pm and The Hawthorne will be $13.   Get your grub on....

New Hipster Music Exposure Vehicle: HBO's GIRLS

The increasingly funny and clever HBO show GIRLS isn't just good for visual entertainment and humor - its proving to be a pretty good vehicle for exposure to new indie music.  Take The Echo Friendly for instance.  Had you heard of them?  Or there "Same Mistakes"?  We admittedly had not.

I'm not boasting that "Same Mistakes" is infectious.  Its not.  But its good.  A solid time piece that makes a point and captures that post-college or post-grad school early adult crisis angst in a lo-fi indie rock pocket.  All the more reason why it was a perfect song to use on Girls.   The track resonates because we all feel or have felt that angst (or for our younger readers - will feel it sometime in the future) and despite trying to sort it all out - we still end up repeating bad behavior and/or making the same mistakes.  Its a cycle.  Sometimes a vicious one...but one that at least gets young artists to make palatable music.

The Echo Friendly's video is lo-fi, with some cool effects.  Nothing visually outrageous to melt your face, but it compliments the music well.  Enjoy....

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA DOCUMENTARY PREMIER!!!

DJ collective and dance chart toppers, Swedish House Mafia, stop in LA today (actually within the hour) to screen their documentary Take One. The premier comes amidst a very exciting week for the superstar DJ collective, who also released their album, Until One, which serves as a soundtrack to the film, just yesterday.

I'm anxious to see the film that MTV callsone of the most ambitious documentary film undertakings with a dance music focus," and the times calls "Spinal Tap for the Acid House generation." With great buzz surrounding the film and release, I can only hope the premier it as epic as their dance tracks.
