Tonight in L.A. (December 31, 2012)

Its the last night to see a concert in 2012 - so make a good choice to close out your year.  LA provides no shortage of those on this Monday night.

Ring the new year with beats from your favorite DJs at a handful of quasi-underground events including Expansion NYE with Daedelus, Tokimonsta, Robert Raimon Roy, A. Chal and So Japan or the Stones Throw family that includes Peanut Butter Wolf, Mayer Hawthorne and J. Rocc, amongst others.  Get tickets to Expansion here.

For some above ground dance floor action - consider Zedd and Nicky Romero at Club Nokia, Markus Schulz at Avalon, Pizza Party at The Central SAPC or Sasha at Exchange LA.

The Sunset Strip heats up with some soul stylings courtesy of Vintage Trouble at The Roxy, posse raps from A$AP Rocky at House of Blues and some unique Bay Area vernacular supplied by E-40 at Key Club.

No list would be complete without consideration for California grown reggae act Rebelution at Hollywood Palladium or mention of Kendrick Lamar's takeover of the Observatory.  Dustbowl Revival hosting "Midnight in Venice" at Del Monte Speakeasy should be some throwback fun as well.

Robert Raimon Roy's Dope Sh*t

If you are not quickly becoming familiar with Robert Raimon Roy - perhaps this lyrical video promoting his latest in sonically hot shit - "Dookie" - will help you get there.  He just dropped it and some other wicked new material on a Check Yo Ponytail crowd at The Echoplex last night and he is sure to be dropping some more dookie at some other venues soon as he promotes his forthcoming Dim Mak release.

That Triple R Threat - Robert Raimon Roy

Had the pleasure of witnessing a Robert Raimon Roy set at BandPage HQ late night on St. Patrick's Day and the dude killed it. Having graduated from syncopated rap styles and swag rap to a more sophisticated look, a little bit of singing and flexible rap vocals - he delivered one of the most impressive performances I caught down in Austin.

I am excited to see what he puts out next - because last I heard from him was "Little Egypt Wavy" - a synthy, drum heavy hip-hop and soul blend that has a wicked video.

Catch him performing a track at BandPage HQ in Austin too.

Avalon Hosts Fresh Beats from Daedelus, Avalon & Two Fresh

Some of SUPERGOOD’s favorites are tearing up the scene for Avalon’s club night, Control. In just a few short hours - Daedelus, Nosaj Thing and Two Fresh are bringing their addictive beats to heads in Hollywood.

From opening for DJ Assault, Justice and Two Live Crew to appearing in Erykah Badu’s most recent video, “Honey”, more and more are happily becoming hip to Daedelus. As his reputation is growing, so is his notoriety as being one of the most innovative and technically sound electronic composers in the game. The quirky, self-expressed Alfred Darlington maintains avant-garde elements not only in his often hipster-sheik dress (he often wears unique suits) but also in his beautiful melodic electronic orchestrations with hints of soul, world music, classical, hip-hop, electronic and more. Peep his KEXP DJ set below.

Noted as one of LA’s finest musical creators, Nosaj Thing paints a sonic landscape with his obscure and highly imaginative style. As see when he played Coachella’s Gobi Tent this past year, Nosaj Thing creates an experience for the audience that stimulates both the eyes and ears. Check out his DJ set from KEXP as well.

Also joining this crew of vanguards are DJ duo Two Fresh. Stemming from a hip-hop core, Two Fresh incorporate elements of sampling with their distinct synthesized beats and create music that not only agrees with their name but is undeniably catchy. I am not certain if drummer Colby is joining them tonight or not - but whether he is or is not there - the Nichols twins will melt your face. Get to know Two Fresh in this video of their Summer Camp 2011 experience...

Each of these rising Los Angeles DJ’s will make you take notice as they ooze with innovation in everything they create. With music this legit, Avalon’s Control is a definite hot spot for the night.
