Tonight in L.A. (Saturday November 10, 2012)

Don't sleep on your local concert calendar tonight because there are quite a few gems in L.A.'s backyard.

Mumford & Sons makes a trip to Hollywood Bowl for the first of two shows that help close out the season.  They are joined by Dawes and I have no doubts it will be spectacular.  Go a little south on Cahuenga and then head over to Vine if you want the turn up to get real as Wolfgang Gartner, Proxy and Popseka keep Avalon's dance floor saturated and sweaty.  Marc Broussard & Friends also play in Hollywood at The Hotel Cafe; if you're into musicianship - stopping in would not be a bad decision.

Local acts join forces tonight to create some L.A. power bills - including Saint Motel and Leftover Cuties at Saint Rocke and Warner Drive and Love And A .38 at The Roxy.  We have one pair of tickets to give away for Saint Motel so tweet out @supergoodmusic @saintrocke and @saintmotel if interested or holler at us at contest@supergoodmusic.com.

Hit + Run celebrates 7 years of t-shirt printing and parties at The Echoplex and Funky Sole gets a special visit from DJ Spinna upstairs at The Echo.

Saint Motel at Saint Rocke (11/10)

Tonight - local indie rock heroes Saint Motel return to Los Angeles and make their way to Saint Rocke for another installment of their cinematic rock extravaganza.

With a penchant for catchy ballads and memorable hooks - AJ, Sharp, Dak and drummer boy Greg have been steadily building their audience and street cred for the last several years.   The quartet recently toured the region after releasing their full length record,Voyeur, earlier this summer and this is their first stop back home since the release party at El Rey Theatre.

Don't miss your chance to jam with the crew before they graduate to much larger, less intimate venues.  Leftover Cuties and Animal Games support.  Use promo code SUPERGOOD to get $5 off too!  Buy tickets here.

Leftover Cuties (We're Talking About The Band)

With a name like Leftover Cuties, your first inclination might be to think some LA douchebag is referring to what he considers to be the remaining ladies (or males - depending on your orientation...or even your gender) at the end of the night. Clever name. I won't be the next Los Angeleno to use the term in public because, one, I'm not a douchebag, and two, someone will be saying it to refer to the band that is playing at The Hotel Cafe tonight in Hollywood, CA.

You may have heard Leftover Cuties on the opening credits of Showtimes's "The Big C" or you might have checked them out over at www.leftovercuties.com or at Casa del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica. Where you should hear them next is kicking off your December 2010 tonight. Why?

As young scenester journalist Lauren Lomma said "the lead singer is a petite but soulful woman full of 1920's Hollywood glamour and pipes comparable to Billie Holiday's. Her voice is sultry, sweet and absolute perfection. ... Leftover Cuties have the kind of sound that will take you straight back into the old days of blues and jive, smoking parlors, and speakeasies."

After seeing them cover songs like "At Last" and "Poker Face" at their weekly gig at Casa del Mar Hotel, the perfect backdrop to their old school, Boardwalk Empire feel - Lomma urged me and all SUPERGOODMUSIC readers to go see them at The Hotel Cafe. The band - despite their laid-back, humble demeanor and old school feel - employ a worldly combination of instruments to back the big bodied vocals, including trumpet, trombone, ukelele, maracas, stand up bass, drums and piano.

So, if you go, thank the Lommabot (@lomfry3) for the recommendation and cheers her with a glass of fine Scotch - SUPERGOOD's suggested drink pairing (we're also music sommeliers). If you can't make it there tonight, then check them out on www.leftovercuties.com.
