Jam fans and piano aficionados would be doing themselves a service by going to The Mint tonight. Ivory and ebony virtuoso Marco Benevento takes to the stage at the Pico funk hub to lay down some thick jazz, granola tunes and the occasional party starter like "Limbs of a Pine." You may remember Marco from the Benevento/Russo Duo - but tonight's outfit should be a bit more eclectic, plus he is joined by Mike Dillon of Garage A Trois, Polyphonic Spree, Les Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade and more.
Its a magnificent night of music to close out the first month of the year as Dave Grohl celebrates his documentary with a Sound City Players performance at Hollywood Palladium, a free KRS-ONE show at Slidebar and the improvisation skills of Marco Benevento and Mike Dillon at The Mint.
If those legends weren't enough - there is a healthy dosage of beatsmiths and producers descending on LA venues tonight too. Free The Robots cuts up at Constellation Room while a pseudo Low End Theory crew celebrates the life of Austin Peralta at Del Monte Speakeasy when Daedelus, Teebs and Gaslamp Killer all lay down dope sets for the low cost of $5 entry (proceeds go to charity).

Its not your average hump day here in LA to end the first month of 2013 because of the artists playing in town. Its the end of a slamming guitar rocking residency at The Mint which featured Eric McFadden for five weeks and the appearance of the aging Who at Staples Center.
While Townsend and friends attempt to take a hefty crowd to a teenage wasteland, plenty of emerging artists will be stamping their identity on some LA sonic enclaves. Kyle Nicolaides pumps out emotional and sometimes dark songwriting at Room 5 Lounge, Lushlife,Groundislava and Zak Waters deliver a healthy and diverse set of local music flavor at The Echo, Antibalas gets a little tribal beat at Troubadour and Hot Buttered Rum jams some free bluegrass at Slidebar.
Other notables include Metalachi and Great White Buffalo at El Cid and Niki & The Dove at The Barn with Vacationer as support. Full list of Wednesday's shows below....

Get your weekend #turntup - cause its Friday and the music is cruising through LA. From the freshly signed sounds of Kid Ink at Key Club to the jams of Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers at The Constellation Room - there is a lot to aurally digest.
If you want to jazz up your night - Stanley Clarke Band plays at Catalina Bar and Grill, but the funkier jams will be heard at The Mint during the NAMM Jam with Leo Nocentelli (Funky Meters), Stanton Moore and Bill Dickens with special guests.
12th Planet, AC Slater and Kelley Dean bring some bass and wobbly filth to the floors of Avalon, while Crookers make the crowd toss and turn at The Observatory.
Indie westsiders should check out El Ten Eleven and Races at The Central SAPC, and for other good music Cody ChestnuTT at Troubadour and Jon Brion at Largo would be good choices too. For a full list of tonight's shows in LA, look below:

We wouldn't really be a music blog if we didn't post this within 24 hours of the line-up being leaked - its the 2013 Coachella line-up. Digest it and discuss amongst yourselves. More tickets go on sale here Tuesday.
Finally back in Los Angeles for more than five minutes - which means SUPERGOOD will be hitting the pavement, NAMM and venue bars to indulge in the finest of musical offerings. Tonight - its time to go underground for some classic hip-hop.
Former Def Jux act, Cannibal Ox reunite for a performance at The Roxy that celebrates more than a decade since the release of Cold Vein. They've been joined nationally by Chicago veteran rapper Keith Masters, whose "Game Day: Pt II" has been a football friendly synch all year long - but in LA the show gets an extra dosage of street from the illest Jewish rapper in Koreatown - Kosha Dillz. To participate in a contest to get on the guest list - tweet out @theroxy @supergoodmusic @koshadillz @keithmasters #cannibaloxreuniontour - and maybe you'll win a pair of tickets!
On the westside, there is more underground chemistry, but of the electronic and beat variety in the form of Break Science's late show at The Central SAPC. They're joined by Continuum (jobot Live) - doors are at 10.
Muse rocks Staples Center for proper if you are looking for an entertainment spectacle. Support from Band of Skulls means it should be solid from opening to close.
Other notable shows include Nia Andrews at Del Monte Speakeasy, a free performance from FIDLAR at Amoeba Records, Sarah Silverman at Largo and Ours with Lady Sinatra and The Diamond Light at The Viper Room.
