Get To Hilltop Hoods Early for Kenan Bell!

Are you hip to Kenan Bell? Maybe you should be if you're a Los Angeleno. He's hometown talent that's made various splashes over the last several years, including "Like This" - which was on the NBA 2K10 soundtrack and reminds me a bit of Childish Gambino.

Kenan's lyrics are often playful, embedded with imagery and informed by the experience of being a 6'5" black male raised in "lily-white Los Angeles suburbs challenging stereotypes." Sounds like a person I'd want to meet - let alone hear rap. You can do both tonight at The Satellite when he opens for Hilltop Hoods.

Machine Gun Kelly Stepped His Game (and Laces) Up at Key Club

This past Sunday I was able to witness one of the best white rapper performances I have ever seen. Sure I've caught Hoodie Allen, Chris Webby and some forgettable white rappers but none had the stage presence that Machine Gun Kelly displayed. He was a wild man in his Sunday performance at Key Club Hollywood, dancing his ass off to LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" and Blink 182's "What's My Age Again" while taking a couple big swigs of Grey Goose during his set. Displaying his rapid fire flow throughout the show, MGK stage dove multiple times and brought two fans on stage who conveniently donned Lace Up tattoo's.

It was an entertaining performance from Machine Gun Kelly to say the least and even the songs I didn't know, I enjoyed. He proved he's a musician to watch out for and has the potential to be a star in the hip-hop game, which P. Diddy realized when he signed him to a record deal over the summer. Celebs were there to indulge, including "Cooler Than Me" charmer Mike Posner. My favorite song I heard was "Stereo", which I heard as I entered the building and is below to listen and download.

Chris Webby at Key Club (Review)

This is my first post on SUPERGOODMUSIC, so thought I would let you know a little about what I enjoy about attending music shows - I love when I see people moving around, specifically if they are waving their arms in the air, dancing or just singing along.

I have always had mixed feelings with Chris Webby, consistently going back and forth with following him on twitter. However seeing him live at The Key Club on Wednedsay, my feelings sort of stayed the same. I hate to like the kid, but he's a good rapper.

At times being among the all ages crowd made me feel like I was seeing Chris "Baby" instead of Webby but the kid can hold his own with catchy songs like "I Need A Dollar" and "La La La". However he also lost interest in me and other fans when he played "ADD" and the songs that followed. His other highlights might have been the support he had on stage with R & B vocalist Miss Deja doing hooks on a couple tracks and DJ Semi opening/hyping Webby up with a quick 3-5 minute DJ set.

Overall Webby had real good stage presence, got the crowd engaged several times but also had some yawners during his hour long set. Yet, I found some new favorites after hearing him perform. So if I had to put a value on his performance, I would say it would be worth seeing Chris Webby for $15 or less. Here's three of my favorites Webby performed.

Asher Roth - "Summertime"

White boy rapper summer anthems are back. Beaches, herbal references, hot tubs and pretty women. Certainly sounds like ingredients for a hip-hop video. Check out the latest from Asher Roth...

@gwatsky - fastest white rapper?

So, I'd seen George Watsky's videos and thought they were clever and funny, but hadn't put much more thought into it. Then I met the guy last night at The Royal Family Ball at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. He was really friendly, clearly into good music (Soulive, Lettuce & Break Science w/ Charli 2na) and mentioned that he'd been meeting with some labels, but no one had offered him a deal yet.

Check out the first of the below videos. It has close to 10 million hits. Who knows what he is capable of writing, but he clearly has an audience already. At the very least, a significant online presence. He has a strong vocabulary. He uses good diction. He delivers his rhymes well.

Something is wrong with this business when a guy with close to 10 million hits on one video is not even getting an offer. He has talent. He can rap fast, faster than most, and that is worth something. Even if the offers were bad ones, someone should have offered him something. Its not every day you meet someone who can rap like this....
