If that is out of your price range, but you are still looking for something special, perhaps stop by The Roxy for Mark The Cobrasnake's final night of Spin The Bottle. The Villians, DJ Kev Kev and several others will be spinning the finest in electronic, indie, hip-hop and LA dance party music.
For those of you who are cheapskates or just spent too much money over the weekend, drop by Spaceland if you are on the eastside to catch one of Local Natives final performances before their residency ends; if you are on the westside and want to follow my path - drop into James Gray Gallery for the New Era Limited Edition hat release party, then head to Hunnypot Unlimited in Culver City and then sneak around the corner for Funkmosphere, the unofficial break-dancing after party at Carbon.
Tuesday I'm recommending one of the top reggae-dub artists around, Lee "Scratch" Perry at the Key Club. Another legend that should be seen before it is too late. If you want to see a legend who (hopefully) has a long life ahead of him, check out Jack White and his new band Dead Weather at The Wiltern. If you want to laugh yourself to death - maybe swing by Largo for Fred Armisen (of SNL fame).
Wednesday I'm probably hitting the bar scene and avoiding a full fledged concert. Nonetheless, I will make my way to Amoeba Records to do some shopping and take in a nice free performance from the Stones Throw maestro Peanut Butter Wolf.
Thursday is just an insanely good day of music for the city of Los Angeles. No citizen is more than a few minutes drive from something that will get you out of your seat and moving. On the westside, things will get jammy at Air Conditioned Lounge in Venice whenThe Muddy Reds, Revolutionary Side Effects and Cubensisbring their hippie party to Lincoln Blvd. and The Mint will be getting funky with New Orleans own Trombone Shorty. Mid-wilshire and West Hollywood will be heating up with the hip-hop stylings of U.N.I.,amongst others, at The Roxy, and the synth pop awesomeness ofMatt & Kim and Amanda Blank at El Rey. For the eastsiders,Dam-Funk feat. Master Blazter and James Pants bring their quirky indie-hop to Bootleg Theater and Dirtbombs bring their Detroit garage indie-rocker performance to the famous echo.
Friday, while RCA heads up to Outside Lands to get the scoop on California's young (but growing) festivals, I will be heading to echo to catch Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, a group I've listened to, heard a bunch about but have somehow never seen. I am anticipating good things. If it is no good, I will just walk downstairs to catch Os Mutantes at Echoplex.
Saturday brings an opportunity to see a funk legend, the Atomic Dog himself, George Clinton at Club Nokia with Parliament Funkadelic. It seems like a very fitting room for the aging performer and hopefully the night will draw a good crowd eager to party until the house calls for time. If you want to keep it funky, but also keep it lean, I'd go to echo for the Funky Sole dance party - free every Saturday night.
Sunday, if I was in town, I'd be at Mars Volta...but I'm heading to Market in Las Vegas to work on expanding the Supergoodmusic community into fashion partnerships. Have no fear - I will make sure to dose you with another CONCERT BLAST and a serving of Supergood Recommendations before I head to the City of Sin.
