Tonight in L.A. (December 12, 2012)

Its 12.12.12.  I'm not feeling apocalyptic.  The end didn't happen...yet.  But it might be near.  At least that's what you'll hear if you go see 12th Planet at Exchange LA along with Two Fresh, Clicks & Whistles, Salva and Dallas K.  The bass drops will be heavy.

There will probably be heavy bass at Barrington Levy at Echoplex, although quite a different sort in the form of reggae vibes.  Also on the eastside you can catch The Soft Moon and Vinyl Williams at The Echo or Das Tapes at The Satellite.

Personally I like the sophista-funk of Dragon Smoke at The Mint featuring Ivan Neville, Stanton Moore, Eric Lindell and Robert Mercurio.  The half Galactic, half just awesome superband will probably do things on stage that blow the average concert goers mind - but don't take my word for it.  See for yourself.  We have a pair of tickets to give away so just holler at us at contest@supergoodmusic.com.

Up in the West Hollywood region Bondax, Kingdom and Bones bring electronic stylings to The Roxy, Shwayze does his southern California hip soul at The Viper Room and The Tragically Hip try to impress at House of Blues - Sunset.  Last but not least - JMSN and Meg Myers perform at Troubadour.Dragon

Other notables include Alt-J and Wildcat! Wildcat! at Fonda Theatre and Prodigy and Alchemist at The Observatory and of course 12.12.12. at Low End Theory with Peanut Butter Wolf and 11 other DJs each spinning 12 records.  A full list of shows tonight is below...

Funky Residency Shows at The Mint

As the final of Wednesday of July hits us - it means yet another funky Mint residency is coming to a close.....but also means there is a fresh one around the corner.  It gets no fresher (or funkier) than a Big Lil Baby Jesus Peasant Party.  Anyone who has witnessed the funk in New Orleans during Jazzfest or at a Lettuce performance would know it gets thrown down at a Peasant Party.  Same goes for anyone who has listened to a hip-hop record featuring Lil Baby Jesus.   This much is true - August's run of hump days at The Mint will be raging with bass.

Erick "Jesus" Coomes, also known as ED, The Rager, Facemelter and, in some circles, a bass godfather, debuts his residency with a trio that features himself, his brother Tyler on drums and Mr. Smirnoff, the guitarist of Lettuce and Lady Gaga's band.  It's sure to be wicked - and if you use discount code SUPERGOOD to get your residency pass, it is sure to be cheap too (the code gets you $30 off while it lasts!).  Buy tickets here.

While you're snatching up tickets to the Peasant Party - you may as well put yourself down to see Stanton Moore close out his residency tonight with sit-in guest Robert Walter on keys and Dirty Dozen Brass Band holding down horns.  Get your tickets for that show here.

That Whole Funk....Nothing But The Funk All Month at The Mint

July isn't just heating up on the streets - its also heating up inside the venues, especially at The Mint where Galactic's Stanton Moore holds down their increasingly popular residency series.

Tonight he is joined by The Greyboy All-Stars' Robert Walter (keys) and Elgin Park (guitar).  Park also just happens to be an accomplish composer by the name of Mike Andrews, whose music is in just about every Judd Apatow production you've ever seen.

If you are not already excited - you either don't like funk, you care little for musical accolades or you're probably doing something ridiculously awesome tonight elsewhere.  But if you're just a little bit intrigued - read on...

Its not your average Wednesday over on Pico in July.  Stanton Moore is a doctor of funk drumming - an industry accepted all star.  His sticks are good.  Rhythm impeccable.  And enthusiasm undeniable.  He is teaching some seminars before the shows - and then showcasing why he is qualified to do so afterward.  Whether tonight - or some other July Wednesday, don't miss your chance to witness greatness.
