Rain, Rain Go Away, We Need Concerts Everyday

An unheard of phenomenon is spreading across venues in Los Angeles. The phenomena I'm talking about is canceling shows due to inclement weather. Last time I checked - rain didn't compromise indoor live music performances.

Now, I'm not trying to say that LA venues are in the wrong for canceling shows because the hard truth is that most people in LA don't like to drive in the rain, can't drive in the rain, are afraid to drive in the rain or some combination of the three. The venues - they are probably watching their bottom line and saying "less people are going to show up and therefore it is not worth it for us to open our doors." A totally understandable business decision for these venues - but nonetheless one that impacts my evening decisions.

The decision also impacts the bands! These bands may have spent all week or all month promoting their show that may or may not be rescheduled. Now - Royal Crown Revue, whose show at the Mint got cancelled, is not terribly wounded because they've got a show next Wednesday at the Mint, but the bands who signed up for Can Of Jam's show at The Viper Room, like TSF, That Was Then and Indroves may be less fortunate because they don't necessarily have a gig next week. If the bands were not the ones pulling the plug on the performance - you've got to feel sorry for them.

Thankfully not all venues have closed their doors this evening and there are still a few gems to find around town.
