Guitar Center's Get Out of the Garage Contest

GOOTG Launch Artwork

Guitar Center launched an amazing artist discovery program, Get Out of the Garage, a few weeks ago – complete with the opportunity of a lifetime. What’s that opportunity exactly?

In exchange for submitting your music and videos and engaging your fan base – an artist or band can win the opportunity to record an EP at Converse Rubber Tracks Studios, collaborate with writer/producer Dev Hynes (Florence and the Machine, Chemical Brothers, Solange Knowles, etc.) and take stage at The Fader Fort during SXSW 2014! Did I mention the $25,000 in cash, gear from Fender, Vox and Martin Shure, and digital distribution through Tunecore too?

In tune with Guitar Center’s service of supporting artists worldwide, the new discovery program will provide one lucky unsigned artist with a giant platform for growth and development. “Guitar Center’s mission is to support musicians – whether by outfitting artists with top-of-the-line gear and impeccable style or providing a platform to share their music with large and influential audiences,” said Maria Brown, Manager of Music and Entertainment Marketing for Guitar Center. “We are excited to have a unique and fresh talent like Dev on board who has so much to offer artists in the independent music space. We couldn’t be happier with the collaborative aspect of this program.”

Guitar Center’s unique approach to engaging the artist community not only benefits artists, but also probably contributes to Guitar Center being the world’s largest retailer of musical instruments.  By collaborating with Converse and Rubber Tracks Studios – this program affords the winner the chance to record at a state of the art recording facility at no cost where their creative spirit will hopefully shine.

New Guitar Center Sessions Series on DirecTV Begins Tonight

Guitar Center and DirecTV premier a new series of GC Sessions featuring legends like Joe Walsh, newcomers like Andy Allo and a smattering of talents in between.  Leading off the series premier on DirecTV tonight is the infamous Joe Walsh for an intimate session of guitar riffs and questions from Nic Harcourt.  The Eagle will be seen on airings of the same episode repeatedly as well as tonight at 7 pm and 9 pm, and in coming weeks you will get to see artists like Ben Folds Five, Meiko, Jimmy Cliff, Papa Roach, Skyler Grey, Hoobastank and even Kinky.

SUPERGOOD had the privilege of sitting in on Andy Allo and Kinky's sessions which each took place in the room housing the expensive guitars at the famous Sunset Blvd. location.  In a feat of production reconstruction - crew transforms the room into a solid live studio for a week.

Kinky turned things up a notch - especially their percussionist.  Fan or not - I urge you to check out them playing "Perfecta" when their GC Session airs.  Andy Allo illustrated why she gets Prince's endorsement with some tight choreography and a 6 piece horns section that was totally boss.  Both are worthy of space on your DVR.

New GC Sessions will be released once every 2 weeks and are exclusive to DirecTV.  There are 9 in total.  You can find out more by checking in at guitarcenter.com/sessions or hitting twitter for @guitarcenter and searching the #guitarcentersessions hashtag.

For you crate diggers of information out there - these sessions will not be in 3D this year, no brands other than Guitar Center and DirecTV are involved in the shoot and Dustin Hinz is the curator.
