Supergoodmusic Friends and Enthusiasts,

It was an amazing introduction to February - from cruising the slopes with newly decked out audio equipment for my helmet while blasting the likes of some of this years official and un-official SXSW performers (Saint Motel ("Do Everything Now", "Butch"), Murs ("L.A."), Odd Modern ("Tipsy Dancer"; "Bangalore") Band of Skulls ("Hollywood Bowl"), The Stone Foxes ("Mercury"; "Beneath Mt. Sinai"), Matias Aguayo("Rollerskate"), Pictureplane ("Goth Star"), Mike Posner("Cooler Than Me"; "Drug Dealer Girl"), Miike Snow ("Sylvia", "Black & Blue", "Animal"; everything!), Rubik, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Orgone, Spoon and so many more to returning to LA and diving right back into it with two concerts on night 1 (Orgone & Nomo at Spaceland followed by 12th Planet and others at The Roxy for the Scion House Party). That was followed by the confirmation of a party at SXSW (3/19) and the debut of Oddo during Odd Modern's performance at The Viper Room before the weekend hadn't even started!

The first weekend of February was truly a super one. WithEbony Bones at The Echo on Friday, a private acoustic performance of Oh No Not Stereo at the Music Dealers House Party on Saturday and the debut of "Pumped Up Kicks" atFoster The People's performance at the Stand Up Charity Event - the live music was both animated and special.

The fact that William H. Macy, nearly the entire cast ofDesperate Housewives and Extra were all in the house to witness Foster The People tear it up on Abbot Kinney made Saturday even more memorable. (You can download Foster The People's new song at their website -www.fosterthepeople.com) And then, of course, there was the Super Bowl.

Great game. Great story line. Great outcome.

From skiing with my father in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, to confirming and planning the firstSUPERGOODMUSIC party at SXSW, to facilitating the creation of new hats for Grassroots California, to seeing one of my most favorite artists and good friend, Mark Foster, please the ears of casual concert goers and famous people alike, to meeting one of my favorite rising artists, B.o.B. - this week has been one of the best in recent memory and one I won't soon forget.

I couldn't have asked for a more super start to the month. There was enough rain and tragedy in the month of January to last the whole year, so let us hope the rest of the year is bright, as good as this last week and filled with prosperity.

For Tuesday February 9th, there are three shows that we recommend. First, Mumford and Sons with Family of the Year at The Troubadour, second, St. VIncent at El Rey and finally, the legendary Loudon Wainwright III at The Largo.

On Wednesday February 10th we recommend that you head over to the eastside to see Imagine Dragons play Spaceland or see the incredible Pete Yorn as he plays the intimate Bootleg Theatre. For the jammier set, Mark Joseph and Steve Moltiz (Particle) will be at The Mint.

For Thursday February 11th we have another handful of options to fulfill your music needs. First, there is the rising indie artist Imaad Wasif who is playing at Spaceland, second, Hadouken and The Binges who are set to rock The Viper Room, and third, there are our friends Line & Circle who are set to play the Bootleg Theatre for the third time this month. The underground MC superheroes from Minneapolis, Eyedea & Abilities, will be at the Echoplex and the amazingly talented and worldly jazz quartet Garaj Mahal, led by Fareed Haque, will be at the Baked Potato.

Friday February 12th brings us two amazingly different acts. First, there isSound Tribe Sector 9 who are playing The Wiltern. We saw them play there last year and it was quite the crazy time. Second, there is the up and coming artist Mike Posner who is playing at Royce Hall at UCLA with fellow hip-hopper Big Sean.

On Saturday February 13th, it is all about the 2nd Annual Valentine's Day Zombie Prom with Saint Motel at The Roxy. You can read more about this special night below, but take it from us, you don't want to miss this show. For those who just cannot handle the indie rock, there is Lucent D'Amour with headliners Bassnectar and N.A.S.A. at the Shrine Auditorium.

For Sunday February 14th, there is only one show that we recommend that you all see and that is the Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Saint Rocke. These funksters from New Orleans will be reeling in their Super Bowl high and will undoubtedly lay down some dirty brass jams that will make your bootie shake and have you calling out Who Dat?

On Monday February 15th there is again only one act that we are recommending and that is Chico Mann at Carbon, where Funkmosphere is traditionally held.

Finally, on Tuesday February 16th there are two special events that we suggest you attend. First is the Pollstar Conference Late Night Jam Session featuring Clipse, Gift of Gab, HOTTUB and Mike Posner at The Roxy and the other is a very special Funny or Die event at The Largo.

SUPERGOOD Field Trip to see B.O.B. at 102.7 KIISFM

I woke up feeling a bit lucky on Saturday and had the impulse to call into a radio contest for the first time in my life. The station, KIIS 1027 FM. The contest, be the 102nd caller and win passes to see B.o.B. live at JoJo's In Studio. Either people really aren't listening to terrestrial radio anymore or I just happened to be a lucky first time caller. Regardless, I found myself on air saying whatever twitter had instructed me to say and boom - I had won 2 passes.

Once I was confirmed though, it was like going through airport security; I had to provide my guests legal name and confirm a long laundry list of items I was not allowed to bring (video cameras, gifts, CDs, etc.). The radio representative told me to arrive just before 4....so that is what we did.

We were there at like 3:45 and quickly discovered we'd arrived way too early. What the radio rep did not tell me to bring was my patience. That would've helped as we waited until just about 6 pm before we went into the studio for B.o.B.'s performance (turns out B.o.B. was late arriving to the studio).

Thankfully, the performance was worth the wait. The song selection was relatively new, with Bobby Ray playing two songs I had not heard and also doing his Patron & Swag a cappella and his hit single featuring Bruno MarsNothin On You. The venue, the Ed Hardy Studio (or, as I prefer, Barf Party Studio), was the perfect host lounge for the intimate acoustic hip-hop show. The room was decked out with a sea of plush pillows in the middle, some movable cubic seats on the side and a total of 20-30 fans and radio station employees.

Afterwards, we had the chance to meet B.o.B., show him some of Grassroots California's hats and take a few pictures (Signature and Blood Diamond hat featured above). He's an exceptionally friendly guy with a positive attitude and a passion for hip-hop and a drive to deliver it to a new frontier. We're happy to see his success growing and are excited to see him atCoachella. If you have not yet seen him, you can catch him later this month with Goodie Mob at Club Nokia on February 27th.

Mike Posner Returns to LA

Mike Posner makes a triumphant return to Los Angeles andThe Roxy for his third time in 6 months. After wrecking the house in both October and on NYE in December, Mike Posner will once again grace The Roxy stage on Tuesday February 16th as a special guest performer at the Pollstar Conference After Party. He will share the stage with Clipse and Gift of Gab, amongst others. Rumor has it he is also performing with Big Sean at UCLA on Friday night. We don't doubt that you will get a fiery rendition of "Cooler Than Me" at both performances.

If you have not been reading the Blast or the blog the past few months, Mike might not be on your radar...but he should be. The American signer, songwriter and producer extraordinaire is a young hustler from the Midwest (MI) who has made a name for himself while finishing his degree at Duke University. Having signed a deal with J Records in 2009 and already collaborated with the likes of Kid Cudi, Wale, Bun B, One Be Lo, Big Seanand 3OH!3, Mike Posner is sure to make big moves in 2010.

STS9 Afterparty at The Roxy

For the hippie mafia, the jam band fiends and dubsteppers, Friday night is going to be a reason to amp up and party. Reason being Sound Tribe Sector 9 and their wild following are in town to play at The Wiltern, with support from Nalepa Dub Orchestra and live painting by J Garcia and Nate Valensky. With doors at 7:30 and a scheduled show time of 8:30, the Niners will be out and still hungry for fun by around midnight which is why Wagatail and The Roxy have joined forces for the STS9 Official After Party featuring Big Gigantic, Elliot Lipp, Devonwho and St Andrew.

With an 11 pm door time and 1 am scheduled show, it is going to be a dirty and dubby Friday night on the Sunset Strip as the party crowd occupies the street into the wee hours of the morning. We are so excited as Big Gigantic is one of our more favorite dub-step groups to hit the scene in a while. You can check out their music here -http://www.myspace.com/biggigantic. In addition to the special LA post-STS9 show (Big Gigantic is flying out to play it), the Wiltern show will also mark the debut of Sound Tribe's new hat designed by Grassroots California (featured above), one of our favorite apparel companies that is quickly coming up in the music scene, and specifically the electro-dubstep scene.

2nd Annual Valentine's Day Zombie Prom

In our opinion there are two types of people on Valentine's Day: there are the people that are in love and the people that aren't. If you happen to be one of those people who can spend the "holiday" with someone special than kudos to you. However, if you are single like us, are not in a relationship or are in a relationship that you can barely stand than you should come to The Roxy on February 13th for the 2nd Annual Valentines Zombie Prom featuring performances bySaint Motel, Young The Giant, Chasing Kings and Links.

With fun, thematically oriented performances, top quality audio/visual effects and amazingly creative promo efforts like thisvideo, Saint Motel is on the fast track to major success. Luckily, they have been playing smaller venues in Los Angeles. We highly recommend that you check them out before it's too late because we don't foresee them playing rooms 500 persons and less for much longer. With several performances at SXSW on their plate and some industry buzz behind them, it won't be too long before you can't get tickets to a show at a much bigger venue.

Not only will there be incredible music at the event, but they will be serving up some amazing drink specials, you will be able to witness some fantastic costumes, and if you never attended your own high school prom, than you have a chance to relive the evening because they will also be crowning a prom King and Queen.

Get Pumped Up for
Foster The People

It is our pleasure to announce FOSTER THE PEOPLE at The Viper Room on February 24th at 10PM.

The rising band recently played there during the 10 Days of 2010 and are ready to bring their flow once again. Their blend of indie, soul and electro, combined with Mark Foster's powerful and beautiful voice, is truly eclectic. it is sure to be a fantastic evening of music, and also is dangerously close to Mark's birthday, so come celebrate with him and the band and possibly catch the second ever performance of "Pumped Up Kicks" which you can download for free from their new website -www.fosterthepeople.com. The site also streams some of the bands other music that you might expect to hear at The Viper Room.

Come catch the phenomenon that is Foster The People before they get too big to play intimate venues like The Viper Room.

2010 Noise Pop Festival

The 2010 Noise Pop Festival is taking place February 23 to March 1 at music venues all around San Francisco. For those that are unfamiliar with Noise Pop, it is considered by many to be the premiere celebration of independent music, film and art.

Unlike other festivals, Noise Pop also includes a mini-conference called Industry Noise. Industry Noise is devoted to panel discussions in which no topic within the realm of the music industry is off-limits. Panelists and keynote speakers have yet to be announced, but as soon as they are you can count on SUPERGOODMUSIC to report back to all of you.

There are so many incredible artists playing at this years festival, way too many to name here, but some of the ones that I am most excited about seeing are !!!, Atlas Sound, Avi Buffalo, John Vanderslice, Rogue Wave, The Soundtrack of our Lives, and We Were Promised Jetpacks. Noise Pop Festival Badges went onsale in December for $150. A limited number of badges include access to the Magnetic Fields show at the Fox Theater on 2/27, or The Herbst Theater on 3/1. Tickets to individual shows went on sale December 12.
