Los Angeles Tonight (June 28, 2013)

End your week or start your weekend with some live entertainment.  Throwback to grunge era and the 90s with Everclear, Live, Filter and Sponge at The Wiltern, give your weekend a Low End Theory jumpoff with Baths, Houses and D33J at El Rey Theatre, rage to the dancetastic tunes of a Penguin Prison or MNDR DJ set at LURE or go for the eclectic sounds of AM & Shawn Lee at The Echo (which we have to dish out to!).



All those Ubiquity heads should be rushing to make sure they get inside The Echo.  Head east early and catch SISU at Origami Vinyl at 7 pm for FREE.  Those in town for the BET Awards can enjoy the comedy of Mike Epps at Club Nokia as well as the soul of Erykah Badu in the same place.  Want to step it up a notch?  Go with the BET Experience and Beyonce at Staples Center.

Sunset Strip Music Festival Announces Line Up

Last week SSMF dropped the bomb on Los Angeles that is their annual initial line-up announcement.  After teasing with a LINKIN' PARK headliner, the creative minds behind the Strip celebration that closes down the esteemed Boulevard from Doheny to San Vicente have continued to pursue a hip-hop flavored line up that includes Wale, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Logic, Asher Roth, Warren G and Bizarre Ride featuring Fatlip, amongst others.  Rockers AWOLNATION and Black Rebel Motorycycle Club ensure that the event will have typical sunset strip rock and roll flavors and roots too.  Emerging acts, especially local ones, were not spared either with The Diamond Light and Terraplane Sun being two notables - and with many more additions soon to come.

The big day is August 3rd, but announcements concerning pre-shows, artist additions, nighttime venue events and other SSMF festivities can be found at the official event website here.

Newport Folk Fest Preview

The Newport Folk Festival is returning this year to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island, from July 26 to 28. Now in its 54th year, the folk-oriented music festival promises an eclectic three days of music from artists who embrace traditions to those who expand musical boundaries. The festival features 4 stages of music, food & crafts, and a number of displays.

Beck, The Avett Brothers, and Feist are this year's headliners. The lineup also includes Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), The Mountain Goats, Father John Misty (ex-Fleet Foxes), Andrew Bird, Phosphorescent, Nigerian singer-songwriter Bombino, The Lumineers, Old Crow Medicine Show, iconic American folk singer Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Lord Huron, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and many more. Los Angeles Tonight (Monday, June 24th)

Monday in Los Angeles means It's A School Night at Bardot. Tonight Travis Garland, Treetop Flyers and Micah Green are showcasing their goods.





The Steelwells are playing at the Observatory in Orange County.





It's the last night of the June residencies, so if you haven't had a chance, catch King at The Bootleg Theatre, Hindu Pirates at the Echo and/or Queen Caveat at the Satellite.

The first Venice Music Crawl kicks off today on the West Side. You can stroll in to Deus Ex Machina, Wit-Z-End, The Love Shack, Rudy's Barbershop and Wurstkuche for free music all day long.

Los Angeles Tonight (June 21, 2013)

Kick off your weekend and the summer with the wild styles of LCD Soundsystem’s Nancy Whang at LURE for Private Label Fridays, get weird with Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti at First Unitarian Church or indie out with In The Valley Below, Wildcat! Westsiders should consider heading over to The Wilshire for the first of many Silent Frisco dance parties.  The nostalgic and unique sonic event moves from The Central SAPC to its new home at The Wilshire - where it will be taking place every third Friday of the month.  Originator DJ MoPo will be bringing heaters from Daft Punk and Radiohead to your headphones while bartenders serve up saucy cocktails to keep spirits high.

West Coast Flavor: Kosha Dillz

The Hebrew Hova, AKA Kosha Dillz, AKA Rami Even-Esh, just premiered his video for "West Coast Flavor" on HipHopDX yesterday and the Koreatown resident is already getting love in the blogosphere. The video - shot and filmed here in LA - features food trucks and shots of Venice, and the song includes Big Pooh plus a solid beat and hook to to cruise around with the top down!
