Started From The Bottom...

I like Drake and all - but a version of "Started From The Bottom" with midwest homies Mike Posner, King Chip and Chuck Inglish, plus So Cal's T Mills, Asher Roth and the dude Erick "Jesus" Coomes on bass is SUPERGOOD too.

Tonight in L.A. (December 22, 2012)

Its not an ordinary Saturday night this 22nd...because you've got no work on Monday and Tuesday most likely, which means the turn up can get extra real.

If you need a little musical guide - we strongly recommend G Pen Presents a TI$A Christmas Party with Cam'Ron, Problem, Casey Veggies, Overdoz and TY$ + special guests.  Trill.  Dope.  G.  All accurate descriptions of what will ensue at 5176 Santa Monica Blvd.

Dillon Francis spearheads a beatdown at El Rey Theatre - but its sold out, so good luck getting in.  No great substitute exists, but Infected Mushroom will keep the Avalon's dancefloor pulsating and Chuck Inglish and Jack Dvy provide a good soundtrack for a night at The Central SAPC.

Mickey Avalon gets weird and raunchy at Saint Rocke, Funky Sole keeps eastsiders old school half stepping at The Echo and Tenacious D evokes laughter at Largo.  A complete list of Saturday night entertainment in L.A. is below...

It might be 10 days before the end of the world, it might be 1....or it could be Y2K all over again.  Regardless, seeing live music is usually not a bad idea and tonight there are a few noteworthy performances worth checking out.

The talented, Grammy nominated Will Bernard brings his trio to The Mint for some amazing top notch jazz and jamming.  If you want to go, but are strapped for cash - holler at us on twitter (@supergoodmusic and mention @mintaLA) or send email to contest@supergoodmusic.com because we have a few pairs of tickets to give away.

Also on the free tip - Zak Waters performs another residency show at The Central SAPC with help from Monte Mar and La Mer.

The hood will surely be intact and the party will be jumping as The Game celebrates the release of Jesus Piece at House of Blues on Sunset.

Tonight in L.A. (November 13, 2012)

Its not your average Tuesday when Wiz Khalifa comes to town - and he is bringing a lot of the Taylor Gang with him to Gibson Amphitheatre.  Brush off some black and yellow, whip out a G Pen to get trippy with Juicy J and get ready to play hard after work....can't afford that ticket or want a more intimate hip hop experience?  Go with Mod Sun at The Roxy.

Or try some gentler sounds from Clairy Brown and The Banging Rackettes at The Mint.  They're making a stop through LA as they visit from the down under to do a few television performances.  She could be the next big thing in pop vocal - so might be worth your time.  The same can be said for Gavin Turek who performs at The Central SAPC for the second installment of her residency.  She is joined by Zak Waters, Amy Krebs and The Ross Sea Party.

If you snagged tickets to Gary Clark Jr.'s sold out Troubadour show - good look.

For a full list of tonight's shows in LA - see below:

  • The Boom Booms, Markus Nordenstreng, Holly Conlan, Satellite, Harper Blynn @ The Hotel CafĂ©

Time To Get Funky: Alan Evans Trio Tonight/Big Lil Baby Jesus Peasant Party Tomorrow

We've got a pair of funky giveaways going on for The Mint going on this week - tonight's Alan Evans Trio show and tomorrow's final installment of Erick "Big Lil Baby Jesus" Coomes' Peasant Party.

Founder, writer and drummer of Soulive, Alan Evans brings his latest outfit - Alan Evans Trio - to the Pico based enclave tonight for a organ-ic night of music.  With Danny Mayer (guitar) and Beau Sasser rounding out the band - they are embracing their first tour in support of Drop Hop - their debut album which was released in April 2012.   Catch them tonight - and maybe even get in free via SUPERGOODMUSIC by hollering at contest@supergoodmusic.com.

Tomorrow - funk captain Erick "Jesus" Coomes breaks down his final Peasant Party for the month of August with help from an A-list of all-stars, including Ryan Crosby (Warren G).  The two, along with Tyler "Tycoon" Coomes - will present a project titled Ray Jermaine - which has the odor of something funky and bad ass already.   Don't miss the chance to see this premier (and possibly only) performance of Ray Jermaine that is likely to include additional special guests and another dosage of Coomes' new project Facemelter.  Check out this video from last week's Peasant Party featuring Coultrain and Kosha Dillz.
